Why don't we post some bad deals we fell into lately?
I'll start with Atlas 30-minute finish epoxy.
Bought one to try for sneakies. It's crap. Don't bother.

Ebony squares from CC? We read all about that.

Joey,

I have'nt used the in house epoxy finish, but I've used the other brand, and was not very impressed by it either. I have to 2 big bottles of the 2part that are almost full still. I do like the 2 part glues from the same company for some things though. been using It for a couple of years, and so far it has held up nice for me.

I was thinking you quit dealing with CC sometime back, did curiosity get the best you My friend :D Guess It's hard not to atleast try out ebony with a good price. The good stuff has skyrocketed in price this last year it seems, and My supplier dried up now from the looks of it. Shame because I did'nt stock up on enough when I had the chance.

I haven't bought any Ebony in a while and I didn't think his prices were that good. Perhaps I've been out of the market to long. You may not believe this but the last time I bought Gabon Ebony I paid 3.00 for a 1.5 X 1.5 X 15". It was a mistake as they were charging 6.00 each and I got 40 pieces but when the order came they only charged me 3.00 each. Got to love it.

 , I would been happy with 6.00 If It was good. Guess I missed the boat on that one.:( I don't remember ever running accross a deal on them that good at auction. If I did I would have atleast 40 of them, cause that would be hard to pass up.:D

This was no auction but one of the dealers I have. I bought the stuff about a year and a half ago. They don't usually sell to cue-makers. I called today to see what they are getting for Ebony but the fellow I deal with wasn't in. Supposed to call back tomorrow. They don't carry a large assortment of wood but what they have is cheap. What I remember was Purple heart 1.5X1.5x18" -2.05, King Wood 1.5X1.5X15 - 6.00, Macasser, Tulip, Cocobolo, African Black Wood, and a couple of others. Hopefully I'll get some information tomorrow although I don't need anything really. I've got enough wood to last me a lifetime and now I only buy wood that has exceptional figure that I can see. That's why I like buying from Bell Forrest as they have pictures of what you are buying at very fair prices for the most part. I don't mind paying top dollar for exceptional wood.

I'm sorry I mistunderstood, and thought you mentioned auction somehow. makes since now. Yeah those are good prices. I don't have nearly enough Myself, but I usually buy By the piece like you mentioned doing for exceptional pieces, so that's why I am lagging. I usually pay the price, but it's worth it. I like pictures also, and usually get what I expect when I buy them that way. I have also bought some woods from bell before, and was happy with what I got. I have not bought their shafts though, but got some nice wood to build handles from. They're easy to deal with also, and were quick to answer any questions I had.

Yeh, I wouldn't buy any shafts from them until they get a little more knowledgable about them. I got fifty and will be lucky if I get 10 usble out of the 50.
I've got enough wood to build about 500 cues put back and enough ebony for about 50 or 60. You know that many cue-makers don't like giving up their suppliers as the more populer they become the material prices rise. About 3 years ago I was getting good Birdseye and Curly from them for 7.00 each and their best for 10.00. Now the prices are nearly tripled. Still cheap though for the quality. I've bought peoples Museum and musical instrument grade before for 50.00 a piece and would be very disappointed in what would show up at my door. I've got many pieces of Birdseye and Cocobolo hanging which will never be used as they are to plain. An extra 10 or 15.00 in material can make a 2 or 300.00 difference in the price of a cue. I seen a plain jane cue that Josey built sell for 1100.00 only because of the figure in the quilted maple he used in the prong. It was outstanding. Out of all the fancy cues at that show to look at and buy only about 8 cues were sold over 4 days and that was one of them.

OK - here's mine. The white pearl rod they sell to replace pearl buttcaps (and I assume joint collars) for Palmers isn't even close. Joint collars can kind of pass but please cue guys just put a cream colored buttcap on a Palmer if you can't find the real stuff, it won't look so ridiculous.

I did'nt even realize they had shafts also, until the topic came up on here, because I never asked, and If they had them on the site I did'nt see them back then. It's been a while since I ordered from them though. I would try the shafts also, but waiting til I hear of better grading. I knew of the place way before it was ever mentioned on here that I know of.

I got some deals on their birdseye dowels when they first started the auction thing, and picked them up alot less then the site price before that once I had figured out what I had in them. I once won 2 lots of them, and after said and done it was very reasonable for the quality. I don't even want to say what they broke down at, but you would be suprised. I Did finally get a piece in a cue, that I sunk 4 coco floaters in so deep that the bottoms almost connected, so it has plenty of spine, and used a coco handle. I turned the cue to a small diameter even, and It still has a really good solid feel to it. Everyone that's hit with that one liked it so far. They have a hard time understanding why I won't sell though. They seem like good dowels, but you are correct everything has went up since they have been at auction for a while. It was starting when I last dealt with them, I mentioned loading up on some dowels, and he mentioned that he was having a hard time keeping up, and had to special order some more doweling machines. After that I did'nt see as many for sale or they looked liked seconds when I did, then they started back up with them, so I guess he did end up getting the machines. I'm thinking there's more people then just us hating the fact that one got out. When I got in this I did'nt understand all the fuss, but I had a few sources that I really liked, just stop selling after watching the quality go down, so I'm guessing they dried up, Atleast they are still selling I suppose.

Your right about figure, the cues & inlays that you match for color and figure. They are the ones that catch peoples eyes. I have alot of waste when I do inlays sometimes, because I like to cut them for the best parts, and don't make the best use of My slabs.

You consider this is "got to love it" deal? You screwed your own supplier which i think is pretty bad something you should not be proud of if i were you.

Oh well. I got over on a supplier for a change instead of vice versus. Just how many hundreds of dollars have you had to throw out the window over grade A birdseye with about 6 birdseyes in it or how many hundreds of #1 shaft blanks have you purchased that are only good for a fire starter? It was their mistake, not mine.

I do not beleive what i am reading. If i order from a supplier that would mean i already accepted their price. All supplierrs have a return policy. if the merchandise was not up to speed and i did not return it that would be out of my own stupidity or laziness. this is nothing to do with getting over. suppliers do not "get over" their customers. you have a very bad outlook and you are trying to justify your lack of honesty. what you did imho is just plain theft. any honest person would have called the supplier and made them aware of the mistake. you took food off a mans table. let's hope he is large enough to absorb the loss so that his family can still eat. your supplier was trying to make a living just like you. he was charging a fair price for his product and you still see the need to rip him off and gloat over it. sad.

Don't sweat his post Dick. This is the same guy who bashed Blud because of grammar mistakes. He has never contributed anything worthwhile to this forum based on his few posts.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I understand how you could get the wrong impression here, BUT, I've known Dickie Neighbors or RHN cues for close to 30 years. He worked for me at one time, he was a partner of mine a couple of times, and I can honestly say I know of no one on earth with more integrity than he has!

It's easy to second guess other peoples actions and pontificate on how you would have done things differently. Just don't expect everyone to believe it!

just more hot air!

Very nice condoning bad behavor. The fact still remains that he has merchandise which was not properly paid for and you support that type of activity. Nice group of people on here supporting one another when an injustice was done.

Wrong impression? this man gloated and said, "got to love it" when he did in fact rip his supplier off. What would you call it? You people are all sticking together so it is obvious that you are all pals and see nothing wrong with his action.
