Working on a pre-1900 French build, likely for Brunswick. 3/8-12 pin like many other antiques of this era. Pin was in the shaft, cleaned it up and now installed in the joint. Adding a second matching shaft as well.

Other cue has gorgeous veneers and Macassar points, sealed it in beeswax for now while I decide on a wrap and buttcap. 5/16-14 piloted micarta joint, stainless pin, dark brown phenolic ring. Two matching shafts.

JW repair and some sneakies also on the move

Thanks for looking

This one was coated in chalk and nicotine, now down to bare wood. The chatoyance is unbelievable, I laid it down in the sunlight so it really showed. Will have a solid white implex joint and big pin shortly, with two nice shafts.

The wrap was solid black, but is on the way back. It is super smooth so I might leave it original and full of patina, or may rewrap with a flax linen.

The buttcap has been modified to fit a KU spec bumper and adjustable weight bolts.

With the vibrant veneers and flashy wood, this should make a darling of a player. Fullsplice with character

Please don't do Implex at the joint. It's too nice of a wand for that. I hear there are far better alternatives. 😉

Had to look that word up.
What is wood chatoyance?

Chatoyancy in Woodworking

Woodworkers describe a particular piece of wood as "chatoyant" when its grain gives off a 3D illusion when exposed to light.
The shimmering effect some wood grains give off

More nonsense:

Installed an isoplast insert for 3/8-12, taps like an absolute dream

Converted a vintage house cue to a basic piloted player

Used a scrap Sampaio ring and bumper, plus a leftover dymondwood buttcap I made years ago, to make a hideous purpleheart house cue banger

Also made a shaft out of old Dufferin maple. Stunning grain

Extensive repairs on this one, ready for refinishing and a new wrap. Spain nose with some extra pieces of flair.

The extra shaft is a Mottey shaft that is a nice compression fit.

You can see the underside of the top thread in the wrap. It's like someone used blue chalk as their talc, I've never seen a wrap that was just filled like this. Usually gross and oily and smoky, this is just dirty chalk dust.

Gorgeous figure in the prong, and honey maple, a 1940s Tru Balance that had a broken shaft, now repurposed as a nice base to any shaft you could want. 1" implex joint and .5" black collar, easy to match with many production shafts. Small delrin buttcap will have a KU-style bumper.
