There is currently a thread talking about the case used by Eddie in the movie 'The Hustler'.

I just watched it and I was wondering what kind of cues were used by Eddie and 'The Fatman'. Does anyone know?

It would be cool to know if what they used was a Bushka or Gus or something like that. Also, what about the house cues used? Anyone know?

I heard they were made by Herman Rambow.

Here is one I found online that was given to Jackie Gleason by Willie Mosconi, nice Rambow cue.

They were Rambows, made by Herman Rambow in Chicago. That's what Mosconi, the technical advisor for the movie, used at the time. Rambow had been the head custom cuemaker for Brunswick. After he retired from Brunswick he continued to make cues for a billiard supply house in Chicago (Keefe and Hamer). The movie was made in 1961 and Rambow died in 1967 at age 86 or so.

BTW Rich, perhaps you know this, Keefe & Hamer was located in the same office building (2nd or 3rd floor, iirc) that housed Bensinger's in its basement after the legendary pool room moved to the near north side from downtown.

I didn't know that. When I met Rambow, about 3 years before his death, Keefe and Hamer was at 17 N. Wabash (that's downtown). They may have moved north later to save on rent, I don't know.

You are correct, and the reason Rambo's were used was because Willie Mosconi was hired for the movie help make the Pool playing parts of the Movie real. In fact when ever you just see a pair of hands in the movie and a trick or fancy shot is being made Willie was shooting.

Willie also had special presentation cues made for Gleason and Newman, that were signed with their names by Rambo, I also heard that they were taken to Herman's shop to meet him.

If not for Willie I doubt any of this would have happened.

Hope this helps
