Cuetec Cynergy tink sound

I’ve had a Cynergy shaft for about 2 years now and I’ve noticed a strange “tink” sound (think Little League baseball game). Anyone who has made CF shafts had a customer complain about this type of sound? The shaft makes this sound regardless of tip; however, the sound is most notable when I have to stoke harder than normal. Also, it looks like this may happen on just one side. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That is a characteristic of most CF shafts. That sound is more pronounced when you are holding the shaft loosely when you make the shot. I have shot Revo's since they came out and also Cuetec Cynergy's. I would say the Revo's and Cuetec's are the quietest CF shafts that I have shot. I'm currently shooting the Meucci Carbon Pro and, while it shoots amazingly, it has the loudest "tink" of all the CF's that I have shot. It almost sounds like glass. I've learned to live with it and it doesn't bother me anymore.

Thanks Rick for your reply. I’ll try to live with it. Also, just wondering if a pad underneath the tip might help. Any thoughts?

I have three Becue carbon fiber shafts and none of them make any kind of sound, no matter how you are holding the cue.

I had a Meucci Pro carbon shaft that sounded a little high-pitched sometimes if you hit way offside on the cue ball.

My carbon shafts are hollow, and they do make a distinctive tink sound on a hard hit shot. I never did fill them foam.

Yeah, I have never shot a Becue shaft before. There's a couple I have not shot (McDermott, Jacoby). I would like to try that Becue someday.

I hit some balls with a Becue Prime, and it felt better than any carbon shaft I have tried. Mostly be cause it has some flex to it. I dislike the stiffness of most carbon shafts.

I have two cynergy shafts...both have pads under the tips, mainly because I've used pads under my tips for 30 years. I occasionally get a "tink" on certain shots, but that's rare and not repeated with the same stroke. I'd say it's likely due to sound resonating in the hollow chamber in the last 9 inches of shaft and the fact that it's carbon fiber, not wood. If your shaft works a smidge loose at the joint, you'll get a dreadful sound out of that, much worse than a wood shaft. I'm pretty sure there's nothing in the shaft that could come loose and make noise, so it's just the nature of carbon fiber. Hitting a cue ball with just the right energy at just the right angle may be making the tink.

It's a "nature of the beast" thing. Predator uses the V-tec pad, which essentially is there to mute the sound. If your tip is worn down, it will act less as a cushion and you will get more sound. How the shaft is made is a contributing factor, you would be horrified to see how little care is taken by some makers, not naming names...

Thanks all, I really appreciate the help and info you provide. I’ll put a pad under the tip and live with it. Again, thanks to all; AZ members are a wealth of help and knowledge.

I have a friend who recently got a Cuetec SVB edition with the Cynergy. His definitely has a weird ting now that it didn’t use to have. We know the little metal ring on the shaft has come lose. But that doesn’t seem like it’s the only thing wrong with it. What version of the shaft do you have?

Not sure how to tell which version I have; got it a few months after they came to market. Just put a pressed Elkmaster on and it greatly improved the hit. I’ll be replacing the tip on my other CF shaft with the same type of tip.

Hi,

Ironically, I found many/most of the CF shafts I tried to have the annoying hollow tink sound/feedback, except the Cuetec Cynergy and Meucci Pro. Those were the only two that sound and feel more like maple to me. I also prefer these two because they have a proper white ferrule which I greatly prefer on a CF shaft vs all black. I guess its all very subjective….

Unfortunately, one thing I’ve learned is that the Cynergy ferrules seem pretty crappy. I have two Cuetec Cynergy CF shafts that are only approx 1 year old, the ferrules on both have numerous hairline cracks. Also the factory ferrule material holds chalk stains and is hard to clean up. I take care of my gear but I do break with my playing cue. Mine still play & sound fine, but the cracks & staining are obviously annoying and I’m currently looking into ferrule repair/replacement options. Apparently this is somewhat of a known issue, as I’ve found a few online discussions with folks having damaged Cynergy ferrules. So I thought I would mention it here for the OP; quite possible you just had a bad tip, but could be a ferrule issue (knock on wood, hopefully not).

BTW, I have both versions of the Cuetech Cynergy, the ferrule hairline cracks are on both of them. Specs, taper, performance, and appearance wise, I can’t tell any difference between the two versions - but they have different logos on the base of the shaft. Not sure which version came out first… Attached two photos.

Hope it helps. Cheers

Thanks for your input. I now know I have the Super Slim model. BTW, I have replaced ferrules on wooden shafts, but as yet have not found out from any cuemaker how to replace a Cynergy ferrule. If there is a video on YouTube, I have yet to find it. I have a lathe and tooling to do it; just need to know how best to remove the old ferrule and what adhesive to use to attach the new one. Also, it would be nice to know where to buy a replacement ferrule for the Cynergy.

In researching my Cynergy ferrule issues I came across this thread from 1 year ago in this forum, there may be some useful info there for you.

I’m just a dumb player, don’t work on my own sticks, but personally I have no interest in replacing the Cynergy ferrules with the same factory one, which clearly sucks. I have some other shafts with Tomahawk ferrules which are outstanding in every way, so I’m trying to find someone who will machine and install a custom Tomahawk ferrule for my Cynergy shafts. I came across a guy who does such work - “Big John’s Cue Repair” (search on FB), he was very responsive and nice on text messages today, he may be able to help you out.

Good luck & peaceful holidays

Thank you so much for the info; I will contact him after the holidays for ferrule replacement. This kind of help is what makes AZBilliards so valuable. It’s members like you that make this my go to website for pool related issues. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

I think everyone is getting worked up over nothing. I have a maple shaft on all my cues and if I hit the cue ball very low and had I get a TINK sound from the wood shafts. If you get a TINK sound with most hits you have an issue worth talking about, otherwise the sound is not unusual.
