Cuetec Thunderbolt 99407 & Grip Hand

i think i am gonna buy this Cuetec just for the sake of seeing how i do with my bridge hand back farther, and feeling more comfortable with my hand fully on the grip, instead of partially.

i'm perhaps guilty of not following this "Perpendicular" concept like i should have been, and after viewing the dvds the other night i need to be more cognizant of this.

besides, $160 aint gonna break me, and if i sell the Thunderbolt shaft on EBay i might even get close to half my $$$ back. Platinum Billiards sells the Thunderbolt shaft for $160 on their website.

and who knows, i might like this Cuetec Thunderbolt shaft, and Janet Shimel might want to sign me up since Earl jumped ship. unless she's already in negotiations with Travis Trotter..........:cool:

Seriously though, you normally play with a Schon, and you're about to switch to a Cuetec? Spindoctor, you play with a Schuler, and you're considering getting a Cuetec? I feel like I'm on Bizarro AZ. :confused:

Destroying my Cuetec and buying a Schuler was probably the best thing I ever did for my pool sanity. Not that I'd ever buy one again, but I'm curious, have Cuetecs gotten that much better in the last 10 years? Having wood on the outside would definitely be an improvement for sure.

DCP, having a grip to hold onto shouldn't really be a big deal. I grip my cue below the wrap all the time; not on every shot, but often enough. There is no physical disadvantage to it, IMO, and once you accept that, there shouldn't be any mental disadvantage to it either.

You could also consider getting a wrapless cue, which many people seem to prefer functionality-wise over wrapped cues, and which also can look quite nice, IMO.

On the other hand, Cuetec seems to sponsor a lot of events, so someone needs to support them, and if you end up liking the cue, that's all that matters. As a former Cuetec owner, I guess I just feel like I have an obligation to warn other people from making the same mistake I did long ago.

i agree that Cuetec cues arent anywhere near the top of the line in production cues. middle of the road at the best as far as production playing cues.

however, like i have said, i have a break shaft that Mueller's made for me a few years back that i usually break with, and i like the looks of this Cuetec butt better than any other Cuetec that i have. plus, its ok to have around for someone to shoot with when they stop by.

and since i can perhaps sell the Thunderbolt shaft and get some $$$ back, and this Cuetec will allow me to move my grip hand back and still have it on the wrap, whats there to lose as far as i am concerned? i already have three other Cuetec cues. i might even be able to put it with my other Thunderbolt butt and sell as a complete cue on EBay, and get quite a bit back. who knows........

and no, i dont usually play with a Schon. i have a Schon, but its got the same specs as my Chad Carter Custom Cue, my Nova Custom, and my Jacoby, so they all play pretty much the same. if i was going to go and play in the U.S. Open, i could probably close my eyes and pick one and be happy. however, i'd probably pick the Chad Carter since its got the ivory joint and ferrule.

We all know you love to overcomplicate your life, but why noy do the smart thing for once? If you have faith in where these experts
tell you you should be holding your cue, send it to a qualified
cue maker/cue repair-er and have them extend the the length
of the wrap. There must be at least 100 guys in America that are
more than capable of doing this task.
Few, if any, would charge as much as the cost of the Cuetec.

the place where i purchased this cue from is now trying to tell me its a "JUMP BREAK & PLAYING" cue.

what does that mean??? how can this be all three? there is nothing on any website about 99407 being a break or jump cue? i assume this cue does NOT break down into three pieces? and does NOT have the phenolic ferrule?

what am i not understanding by his statement? i just naturally assumed it was a regular Cuetec playing cue.........:confused:

well, i think i might have just pulled a Trotter here..........

on no website does it say anything at all about the Cuetec 99407 being a three piece, jump break cue. its listed in with all of the other regular Thunderbolt playing cues so i assumed it was a regular two piece playing cue. but upon much closer examination it looks like i might have just bought something i didnt want.

Mike...FYI, Janet sold Cuetec last spring, and the new owner FIRED Earl...he didn't jump ship (from a 100K job).
