Cuetec vs. The Production World

Can I have a shot at it? I would think Predator Cues, or just shafts for that matter would surpass the technology of a cuetec. Thus I think if Earl and Allison were to use them, it would beeter their game.
I talked to a friend of mine that works for Predator. And I explained to him that for me, I would not like adjusting aim to NOT compensate for deflection because of so many years of doing it. He said "That's like playing golf with original real wood drivers and not switching to metal woods. Why wouldn't you?" That made sense to me but am still playing with the true shaft and not a predator shaft.
Who knows...They might be playing with Predator shafts...They make blank shafts don't they? This might be G 14 classified information though. SHHH

In what way would another shaft better there game? Earl is on this forum, as him if it would better his game. We all would be interested in the answer.

That's total bullshit...Efren hated a Predator and knew immediately that it wasn't for him. Do you honestly think that Earl and Allison HAVEN'T TRIED a Predator after all these years, with all of the hype and free shafts being thrown at them, the two best in the game at one time or another? If they thought for one minute that it would improve their game or help...I guarantee it would be on their cue. IT'S NOT.........

As you can see Earl ain't hitting them like he used to. Maybe he needs help. As far as Efren, well he can do or say whatever he wants cause he's the living legend of pool. Just like I said, I didn't want to switch for the compensation so I have not switched to the Predator shafts. Maybe that is how Efren felt. I am just telling you what my friend said about the new technology in shafts.

My opinion.. I dont believe in fiberglass cue/shaft or laminated shafts. Nothing feels or hits better that a solid piece of maple shaft with ivory ferrules. As for deflection, well if you are a good player, you can adjust your game to the cue.. the cue aint gonna adjust to you :D

For the money cuetec offers all the playability that anyone needs. What's great about cuetec is that you can take it into a ruff place to play and not worry about it being stolen or damaged. I have been in some redneck dives where I would be very apprehensive about bringing a predator or some pricy custom cue.

How is a cuetec protected from being stolen? Just wondering...

They're like Meucci's. I heard a guy left his Meucci in the back of his open truck. When he realised what he'd done, he rushed back and found there were two other Meuccis beside it...

Very simple...if the thief isn't wearing a glove (and most don't), the sticky shaft will stick to their hands and fingers and they won't be able to shake it off...kinda like dipping your hand in honey and then a bunch of feathers.
You'll catch him immediately....

As far as monetary value- Cuetec is last in line. As far as playability, solid hit, super easy maintainance and low cost - Cuetec is number one.

Earl Strickland has played with a Cuetec cue since 1990!! How many world titles and US Opens has he won with it? Allison Fisher plays with a cuetec and is the best womens player ever.

Aside from its endorsements from a couple of world champions, Cuetecs just get the job done as well as any cue on the market including all of the custom made cues.

IMO, the fact that Earl and Alison play with Cuetec is totally meaningless. They're paid to play with Cuetec, and their cues probably are at great variance from a production Cuetec. It doesn't mean Cuetecs aren't good, but it certainly doesn't mean they are good either.

Ok, CueTec's are a nice cue to start with. My cousin has a CueTec Break/Jump cue which I feel is one of the best out there and he plays with it as well...don't know why, but he does. Since then, he's gotten some sort of sneaky-pete. (haven't seen it yet...) Well, I tried playing with his b/j cue, and in addition to the cue being too heavy (20 oz.), I really...really, really, really hate...no...I mean LOATH their fiberglass shaft!

Also, I don't care how long, how loyal, and or stubborn you are about your production cues, CUSTOM CUES PLAY WAAAAYYY BETTER...PERIOD!!! Let me put it to you like this. Even though I have ordered two Cokers (which are custom cues for those who don't know...), I long for the day I can hit a Lambros again. I still remember how that thing felt when I hit it in Valley Forge in 2000! Yeah, I could've had one by now, but I wasn't that serious about the game as I am now, and I couldn't see plunking down $900 on a plain jane, because I was going through my "pretty cue" phase.

The cue I hit at VF was $1600 and I didn't have that kind of money then or now for that matter. Now, I have nothing against production cues, nothing at all. My favorite cue, even over Schon, is Joss. Yes, the pros play with Meucci, Falcon, Joss, etc. but they can afford to support the pros; however, there are a lot of pros who play with custom cues as well. Efren, Mika, Gabe, Sombojin and many more.

I bet if you were to do a blind hit test between various production cuemakers and custom cuemakers, (stay blindfolded and let someone hand you the cues and line you up...) had that person write down your responses, you might be suprised after you finish, what you really like. I still love Joss, because their cues taught me that a cue shoud feel solid. Now, I need a cue that will give me a solid feel/feedback and I think that a custom cue will do this better than a production cue.

Let me also add, this depends where you are in you game too. You may feel that a production cue hits just as good as a custom cue and a lot of people do. But here's something I thought about. O.H.B. has said on many occasions that he has an original Balabushka put away for safe keeping and he uses a Lucasi (which are excellent cues from what I've been told...), to play with now. He had to make some necessary adjustments, but he feels his Lucasi plays extremely well for him. But, he's in this game for a good minute so he knows what the hell he's doing too!

My thing is this, not all custom cuemakers out there charge $900 up for their cues and for the price of a lot of these production cues, you can get a nice custom cue made. I look foward to my fancy Coker sneaky-pete next month and my custom in August. So yeah production cues are nice but I assure you, you can find a custom cue maker that'll make something that's best for your game for a good price. Ok...I'm getting off of my soapbox now. :D :p

I'm not sure about Earl,.. But Allison does play with a "Out of the Box" Cuetec Cue. the only change she has done, is a guy replaces the tip on it, as soon as she gets it.

Cuetecs are not bad cues. I personally don't like their Fiberglass coated SST shaft. I do however like their Vortex Shaft.

Are you saying?:

(a) ALL custom cues play better than ALL production cues

(b) SOME custom cues play better than ALL production cues

(c) SOME production cues play better than SOME custom cues

(d) SOME production cues play better than a WHOLE BUNCH of custom cues

(e) SOME players play WAAAAAAYYY BETTER with ANY cue

What would you rather buy and why: A brand new car straight off the showroom floor that was made in a plant assembly line by one of the big name carmakers....or....a kit car made my "Melvin Motorhead" that got an "A" in high school auto shop and worked at the service dept. for a dealer and is now putting out his own kit design and parts and is taking 9 months to a year for your car to be ready? Oh yeah...Melvin is also putting everything together with love and care that only YOUR car deserves!!

Allison's cue has to be custom...It's shorter than the "Out of the Box" cue...

You are correct, it is shorter. However this is the answer on her website.

Q. Even though you play with a Cuetec cue, do you play with it "right out of the box" or do you have your cues modified such as tips, shaft, taper, etc. and do you have someone local do your work for you?

A. I do use an out of the box Cuetec. All that I ask for is a 56 inch cue. The average cue length is 58 inches. Other than that I use a mori tip and a local guy named Kevin does my tip changing.
