Curious if Anybody Has Experienced Warpage With Their OB Shaft?

+1...Royce, Shane et al are great people, and stand behind their products. Nuff said.

I hear you Chuck. I actually though about the title for like 10 minutes before I posted, and that's why I carefully worded the title starting with the word "Curious", as in "I'm just wondering..."

I could have clarified the title a bit, but it would have been a ridiculously long title... In the end, every reasonable length title I wrote, no matter how I worded it, was subject to the possibility that sombody could carelessly interperet it and get the wrong impression. So I just chose to be as precise and concise as I could and then clarify my point in the first paragraph, and hope the sane people in the room would read the full post.

Apologies if anybody was left with an ill impression from my post title.
 
The ones I've seen or owned were either perfectly straight or not good.
I think the Quality control has much improved and I like the finish around the
collar of the shaft alot more now than before.The problem is that even when
the shafts are shipped to various distributions for selling,Royce has no
control of the environment they might be stored in.Any wood stressed
relieved or not,if stored in temperatures that fluctuate alot will cause this.
The best thing about OB is,even if you don't
like the shafts,the innovation and process that went into the process
of the OB1 brought a whole new light into the world of LD shafts.
 
no shaft is completely warp proof, but i've worked on many ob shafts over the years and IME they remain much straighter than other shafts. i believe it is due to their construction technique which uses many many thin veneers. using so many veneers i believe reduces the impact of warp prone wood when it does get into a shaft. when you have laminated shafts with the typical 4-8 pieces, if one of those pieces is warp prone, it affects the shaft much more. i haven't found that most laminated shafts stay that much straighter than non.
 
I've had a couple warp but I just took them to an OB booth at a tourny and they replaced them on the spot. They have been very good about standing behind their product in my experience. Unlike Predator IMHO.

If all bussineses
stood behind there products like OB,there wouldn't be much to ever
complain about as far as quality customer service.
 
No reason to apologize for the title. It asked a question and that doesn't suggest anything unless someone is just looking to flame. And your original comments were clear about your question.

As for warping, it is possible to get any new and straight shaft and attach it to your current cue butt and it roll like a log. And even if your original shaft rolled straight when attached. That usually isn't the new shaft (especially like ob or predators). Its usually the facing on the butt. Someone working with Improper equipment on the cue in the past. If this happens see an experienced and reputable cue repairman.

I just want to say thank you all again to everybody for all of your feedback and the constructive information you all provided. I definitely appreciated every opinion here.

I received the shaft Friday afternoon and put it too the test on the evening. I definitely felt I picked the right shaft for me and was glad I got the Classic instead of the OB-1. Frankly it made my cue feel like sex on a stick, and I wanted to play all night.
