Curly Shafts?

I am trying to find a cuemaker that can build 3 or 4 curly maple shafts for me. They would be for a Schon cue and I like them heavy atleast 4oz. Melamine ferrules and black diamond layered tips. shafts would be roughly 12.7 when finished.

Please pm me if you have the wood to do this.

I don't have the curly blanks and I'm too busy to take on any new work.
I've had to turn-away 3 jobs in the last 5 days. That's not something I like to do.

curly shafts

i just turned several curly shaft blanks,the 4 oz. is a toughy,the reason schon gets their shafts so heavy is due to the size of the brass insert that they use.i could make the shafts,but without their insert you are probally looking at a shaft in the 3.8 oz. range.

Yes, the big insert and taper play a big role in shaft weight. It's easy to wrapped up in shaft weight. There are way too many other important properties of good shaft wood that most pass up just for a heavy shaft.

Agreed. Jon. Some can brag their shaft is 4 oz but it has baseball bat taper.
And 3.5 oz shafts aren't going to make you miss the money ball b/c they are 3.5.
and with a real playable taper.
Some would be shocked how light the pros' shafts are .

Ok let me ask you gentlemen a question. Is it possible to have a shaft that is roughly 12.7 to 12.5mm that weighs around the 3.7oz mark and still have a nice 10 to 12" pro taper that hits stiff?

Sorry if this is a novice question

Yes, maybe a 1.5MM taper to the middle of the shaft.
Pro taper meaning about .003" per inch of taper on the average the first have of the cue.
 
Why do you want curly maple? For the last 25 years I have been rejecting shafts with curls or other visual blemishes(eye catchers). They are typically light weight and they don't play better if they play as well and heavily striped shafts are far more prone to snapping. Good quality regular maple frequently has very faint curl that is invisible unless you are looking for it.

I am with everyone who questions the need for 4 ounce shafts 3.5 to 3.9 play as well as anything.
