Someone asked, "I have noticed that there are two types of billiard table cushions. Some are regular cushions and others are called floating cushions. What is the difference and which is better on a 9ft. table?" in a different forum. I said I'd try and find out.

Thanks in advance.

Sure they weren't talking about rail nuts? Rails can be attached with plates, threaded inserts, or 'floating' nuts placed inside the rail. I wouldn't say one is better than another-there's good and bad examples of each.

Never heard of them before.

Table

A floating cushion would be a cushion or rail without a alignment strip or control strip like a ridgeback rail block has the hump is my guess at a "floating cushion"
