There are plenty of cuemakers out there who make great playing cues. So I am not looking for a list of cuemakers who make great cues I want the cuemakers who make great playing cues at bargain prices. Just to put a number to it say $500 for a four point four veneer classic custom cue. I see alot of sites with cuemakers making custom cue at some real good prices but so I know they are out there but I am not familiar with anyones work.

I would call Pat Diveney... he makes a great cue for the price and his cues are getting more and more popular every day. Not only would it be a great playing/hitting cue, but it would also be a good investment

I have a couple of cues that were made by Dave Bollman. He is the house pro at Q-masters in Virginia Beach, VA. I'm not sure if he has a web site where you can look at his cues, all I know is that he has about 15 in a case when you walk into his shop. He also does all their cue repair. If you're not familiar with Q-masters, it is owned by Barry Behrman the man behind the US Open.

I will ask him if he has a website or a way to view them online. Both the cues that I have were unbelievably priced and play great!! I'm very new to this posting thing, but I will take some pictures so that I can show you some of his work. Stay tuned....

Great cues

I started down the same road. Looking for great playing cues. I've found out that some cue makers consistently can be counted on more than others for a playing cue. (Of course a lot of this is subjective also)

I have a Shurtz pj that was found in a storage shed that plays fantastic. I have bought a few name cues and they play good, but not like the $75 ugly Shurtz does.

I bought an inexpensive Frey $375 cue and it is close to the Shurtz and looks good also.

I have played with a Diveney and agree that particular cue played great. I have a converted Titlist that plays good. But back to the same thing the $75 Shurtz somehow fits me better than some of the $1500 cues I have bought.

I am still looking for the one that feels like it has my muscles, nerves, blood veins etc. But I suspect it will be by trial and error that I find it not by ordering it custom. Maybe it can be customized and tuned up later based on measurements, balance point, tip, ferrule, shaft dia., wrap, etc. But if it doesn't feel good to start with then it is probably time to move on.

BTw while I am definitely not a good player, it is my hope and goal to become as good as possible.

Good luck with your search and IMO Diveney is a real good place to start.

I also let others try my cues out, I feel like it is something I need to do. Hopefully someday someone will let me shoot briefly with one of theirs and it will fit like the proverbial glove. Then everyone will gain.IMO

Jimmy Brumfield out of Lexington, KY.

I have one of his cues and it plays excellent. I also have an AE custom and the hit of the Brumfield is very, very similar to the more expensive AE.

Just my two cents.

You can find his info at easypooltutor.com under directories. He is listed in there under J.B. custom cues.

I have gene at Crown Cues building me a nice custom for 390. He does amazing work and I heard his cues play good. Click on the link in my sig and use his estimator program to price you a cue. Gene is a very nice guy and will get back to you the same night you email him.

Darrin Hill makes a GREAT playing cue for any amount of money. You can pick up his PJ's for great prices. Even the fancier cues are modestly priced. However, with cue prices the way they are, you can get just about ANYTHING for a bargain if you look hard enough and ask the right people

I also REALLY like Olney's work. Fantastic cues at great prices...

Thanks for the great advise. I think I am going to order a Bob Frey Sneaky just need to decide between bacote or cocobolo. I had a TS sneaky that was the best playing cue I have ever owned. I also want to have a custom cue made with four points and four veneers no wrap and maybe a hoppe ring and a few inlays. I will be making some phone call next week to some of the suggested cue maker.
Thanks
Don

Give Paul Sumrall (sonofthunder) a call at 806-778-1957. He lives near Lubbock. You can search some of his offerings on here too or visit his site at sscues.com.
He also has cues available at the Fast Eddies events. Next weekend he should be going to San Angelo. If he doesn't have one you like, he'll make it.

i had a darrin hill that i really liked. i regret selling it to this day but i've noticed his prices are really high. i bought one of his cues from cueaddicts. after selling it i contacted the Hills to see what it would cost to replace it and he said it would be 300 more than i paid for it from cueaddicts.

i didn't think that he made cues that cost less than 1200.
