Im looking to buy a custom sneaky. Whats the most i should spend on a basic style cue like that? Which cuemaker should i look into contacting? Would it make more sense to just buy a production sneaky for cost purposes? I just really enjoy the basic style. Thanks.

silly to commission one. you are goingto pay ~$400+ for a 2shafter from a reputable maker, and it isn't going to be 'custom'.

There is a willeeCue in the f/sale section now for $160. buy that one, get a 2nd shaft and save $200.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't commission one. You'd have to wait for it and you wouldn't be able to hit with it before you got it. But the main reason for my opinion, is there are just too many really nice ones for sale already at a fraction of the price of a brand new one. Sure, buying it online doesn't allow you the opportunity to hit with it first. But most respected sellers are very good at describing the condition and (to some extent) the hit.

Since you're already in CT, contact Paul Drexler PFD Cues in Marlborough, CT. He's a world-class cuemaker and probably only 45 minutes away from you.

Attached are two fancy sneakies of mine that Paul made.

If you can get what you want (kind of "hit", balance, weight, etc) from a production cue, it seems silly to order a custom ("Dear Mr. Custom Cuemaker, please make me a cue that looks and hits just like an XYZ Corp. production cue. Please find enclosed a blank check.").

For me the answer was an OB121 with a 30" OB2 shaft and UltraSkin Soft tip. Hit, balance, weight and appearance (sneaky) were exactly what I would have ordered from a custom cue maker. The nice thing with OB cues is that they're offered with four distinctly different shafts -- something for everyone.

If you don't know what you want either road is costly.

Blasphemy ! ... and a little on the light side for a custom sneaky from a reputable builder

I might suggest Prather, very nice custom made sneakies. They are wonderful to deal with and in my experience they will craft one in a reasonable time (not that others are unreasonable, just a bit longer, no disrespect intended to my friends currently making me a sneaky :o). Schmelke make lovely production sneakies and offer various customizations, all at a very reasonable price.

Dave <-- proud owner of over a dozen sneakies, 9 of which are custom from reputable builders, including a PFD/Bear that plays very nicely

Yea i emailed a couple cue makers they all wanted around the 600-700 dollar range with one shaft. I may just go with an OB or just stick to my current playing cue ( Meucci- which im sure you all despise hahaha but i LOVE it) and wait until i have the cash. I just like that bar cue look. Thanks for all the replies though. Very helpful!

Im looking to buy a custom sneaky.

This depends on what you think a sneaky peat is::
a) does it have veneers?
b) does it have a wrap?
c) does it have any flash whatsoever to the uninitiated?
d) does it have a non-wood-to-wood joint?
e) does it have a non-standard number of points?
f) are the points at a non-standard cut-inclination?
ad-nasuim...

Whats the most i should spend on a basic style cue like that?
$400 for a cue with the above questions answered affirmatively.
Add $50 for each question that is not answered affirmatively.

Would it make more sense to just buy a production sneaky for cost purposes?

Mostly, yes: and if push comes to shove, put an aftermarket shaft on it.

If I were you I would get what I know that I wanted the first time. You dont want to have any regrets on your purchase.

a) no
b) no
c) ?
d) no
e) 4
f) ?

Wasnt trying to get all crazy with this thread. I was just looking for a reputable dealer who made nice sneakys. I was asking wether it would be cheaper to go production or custom. I now know that production is cheaper even with just a basic cue like that. I have never dealt with a custom cue maker until today when i emailed three of them. Thats all lol. I figured maybe i could get something like the ob 121 but custom for around the same price range is all.

If you are still looking to get a custom, I recommend Josey cues.
Their cues have a super-solid hit, with quality wood, are custom-made to your specs, and all at a great price with amazing customer service.

Now, that just plain silly. Fancy sneaky pete, an onymoron if I've ever heard one. Now, what you've got there is just some bad ass looking cues. Not much sneaky about them...

Josey cues are awesome. I would also throw Steve Klapp in the mix. I bought one of his sneakies off someone on here for under 300.

For a nice cheaper sneaky at around the $400 range look no further than Bob Frey or Pat Diveney. Both are known in the pool world for their sneakies.

THANK YOU $400.00 range is right where i want to be!!

i have an idea

Brent Summers Custom Cues. you cant go wrong. if you want the experience i suggest you go with a cuemaker from beginning to end, however if your not in a hurry and like jumping around, you could get what ever you wanted and have it sent to whoever. there are a ton of qualified builders. im sure youll get a lot of input here... good luck with your idea. oh yeah what that guy just said pat diveney or keith josey are great sneaky builders they make the main player hit your looking for..

Keith Hanssen, or Dmitry Komarov

Both links in my signature.

Both are around $450 for basic sneakies.

Both play amazing. Better than many guys charging double what they charge.
