Customs in Chicago

I recently acquired a cue from Japan and the seller shipped it with EMS. The cue arrived in Chicago Customs about a week ago and has stayed there since. USPS told me that it may take up to 45 days to clear the customs. My question is, is this normal to take this long? Is it possible for me to call the US Customs in Chicago to check on the status?

I did ask the seller to declare the full value of my cue since there is no import tax on billiards cues and wondering if it is the reason causing the delay.

This cue does not have any ivory inlays.

Looks like is should be OK

Looks like you should be OK, at least you know it is in customs hands.
As long as it is fully insured I would not worry. It may just take what we all do not like is time.

I buy cigars from overseas... and have recieved them (through Customs, of course) in less than a week. The sender just needs to pick an expedited service... that's all. ;)

No. It is a wrapless SW with Melamine ferrules. Here is a picture of this cue:

That doesn't seem normal to me I had a cue shipped from japan and had it in 2-3 days USPS express for "about $40.00"and had one shipped from canada over nighter with fedex next day $50.00 had no problems

keep after them., items do walk if you know what I mean

I called USPS many times but was told that the US customs has it and they could not do anything but ask me to wait. Does anyone know how I can contact (phone number?) the Customs in Chicago to track on this package? Thx!

Sounds like the high $$ value threw up a red flag for Ivory and they are just going to have it sent somewhere to check it out. Or they are waitng for final price on what they are going to hit you for on duties. Or he could have listed a wood like ebony or something and got it held for paper work to prove it is infestation free. Or the shipper may have not included the exact right piece of paper. It is best to just put Billiard equipment on customs forms. The less you put the less likely it is to get held up. I once had camel bone slabs get held up for months waiting on the scientific name for the indian camel to be located.

next day shipment to canada for 50? how did that work? i check the fedex site and saw that anything being shipped to me in canada from the us would cost at least 70 for an overnight delivery.

I checked out the website,Yahoo Auctions Japan. He has a fancy Southwest that is a knockout. Anyone know how much he wants for it? 78,000 Yen I guess.

Yes, I found it at yahoo auction Japan. If you don't read Japanese, you can go to google - > Language tool and enter the URL and have the page translated to English.

By the way, my cue finally got cleared by Customs and I should be receiving it in a day to two :)

I don't see that he is selling any Fancy SW. He got some other cues but none of them are SWs.
