One more example of " for each his own...". If you're 6'6" we're the same height and me playing with a 55" cue would make me feel like playing with a "toothpick" especially when it comes to rotation games. Some power shots when you need to move a CB and have a good follow through...those would be not so easy task to accomplish consistently. But that's me if it works for you than your adaptability is really good
No, it would be impossible to create that nearly identical shape of both shafts. I think it's the relationship between the ivory facing, the shaft facing and the tenon facing and the wood grain. When Dave made and sold me this 3 point Kikel, he had been saving these particular shafts for his cue. He thought at that time, since he was getting allot of work, he'd focus on his trade, which he kept getting better at.
If you look where the ferrrule/faces to the wood, the grain in the wood is more compressed. I don't think this pic is clear enough.
One more example of " for each his own...". I was always called bean pole, tooth pick growing up. I think your on to something.
With my big swing, this might work. I'm not expecting good things, but this shaft will NEVER be used again. The rest of it is still good. I could care less how much it's value will decrease yadde yahdee, I still have another bastard child

Todays conditions are NOT conducive for the power shots of the sixties and seventies. In the prior years, before equipment change, you HAD to have a shaft and SWING that would Churn the cue ball thru a 14.1 rack, sometimes hitting the balls 4 times with force follow as it dug its hole.
I have a Big swing, it's not needed nowadays like before, if she and I don't hook up, I'll let ya know. I know we'll hook up at least one time :thumbup:.
I hope it doesn't work....if it does I'll then chop the other shaft

Or you could take the money Ernie will charge you to whack those shafts, new
ferrules and everything and apply it toward a new shaft, then clean up and sell the
old used up whippy shafts.
Been there done that. Have a short Gilbert shaft/ivory, love it.
Would never separate those original shafts.
Toooooooooo many good memories, and beat downs I handed out with those twins.

When I started making cues in 1968 57" was the norm.
When I left Joss Cues Danny, Viking, McDermott started making 58" cues.
That became the norm.
The longer cues came from the Straight Pool players on the East coast.
Snooker players have always used 55" cues.
I seem to remember cutting your Szamboti cue to 57" in Co Springs. Do you still have it?

I envy you for keeping a cue long enough to wear out shafts.
I've never done that, the longest I've ever played with one cue is 2-years and my
game suffers a little now because now I'm changing every day.
My final game last night was the difference between my team winning or losing, I got
out but I changed up my pattern due to lack of confidence I wouldn't over travel the cueball on a critical shot.
The run would have been easier had I been used to my cue.
Trying out different cues every day is all fun & games until you hook yourself by a half inch 2 balls before the 8.
Took 2'' off the length. Ernie removed the interior debris/wood from the ivory ferrule, cut and refit new tenon. I think it's perfect for bar table play.
