Cut down a new tip?

My thoughts exactly!

Nobody in my day, would ever chop or grind a tip down, to a thinner thickness, for some unknown reason. I cannot tell what the current players are thinking, to think that a brand new, but thin, grinded down, tip would be the way to go. Maybe they crave to keep giving money to their cue repair man. Maybe they are crazy. Maybe they don't have the patience to let the tip go down by itself, and be a very nice tip. Maybe I don't understand millennials. I think the latter is probably key.

All the best,
WW

I agree 100%... There is nothing like a top that has been compacted naturally. They also play their best just before it's time to change them.

I doubt your day included new cue tip diameters at 11.85 and/or ferrules shorter than some of the tips.
Really looks strange having a piece of leather over powering the ferrule; the play isn't friendly either.

Anytime a customer comments about how good their tip is just before it's time to replace it, I advise them to consider starting with a harder tip or pre-install compression.
It's a sweet spot if you can start a new tip close to that zone we feel at the end of a tip's life.

You realize you’ve put down exactly why people trim down a tip.

Choose the best tip.
Compress it, condition it, whatever (i simply compress
Trim down to the height you feel good hitting with. Too high feels like I hit the cueball a fraction too soon, and it just feels funny

What doesnt make sense is for you to wait until the end of life to get the best feeling out of a tip. You can get that pretty early.

Freddie <~~~ 0.247" actually
