Cut Shots - Do you use Center of Cue Ball or Edge of Cue Ball for alignment to the Object Ball or Both

I have been observing sometimes that a less than full to half of a Cut on the Object Ball, I use the Center of the CB to the imagined contact point on the Object Ball. But on thin Shots it seems easier to see or imagine the Edge of the Cue Ball striking the Object Ball on a Cut Shot. What do other Players do? Just trying to get some additional input.

You might take this to the 'AIMING FORUM'. Please.

Neither. Or both. Sometime both then neither.

I do both depending on the cut angle. I’ll also use the edge of the cue tip as a reference for these shots.

Hit enough balls consistently (with as perfect of fundamentals as you can manage) until it just works without thinking. Stay down and observe what happens. Thinking is sabotage. Thinking about aiming is also sabotage. Ironically, I have to keep thinking at the practice table until I don't need to.

When do you reach the point that you don't need to think? It's a personal thing. Baby birds are shoved out of the nest, baby elephants are with their mother for 16 years. How long will it be until your aiming system (or none) of choice is grooved in? Hellifiknow, but you gotta keep at it until you don't have to think about it.

Some people just see shots, some people need to use dozens of aiming systems for years until it clicks. Consistency and staying down on the shot is the key, you can't learn what balls do if there is no consistency.

I recently saw a shirt that said, "You don't need a spot, you need more practice." Funnily enough I think this applies to all of us but I know I don't want to admit it about myself! 😅 :) Persistence wears down resistance. Keep chipping away at it and it works eventually.

C'mon guys. There is an entire sub-forum for aiming. That's where this belongs. Just sayin. The OP has been a member long enough to know that.

Can you help me figure out how to replace the rails on a GC4? Are artemis or superspeeds better? ;) :sneaky: :)

No matter what the shot is I focus on the contact point on the OB unless it’s rail first or something odd.. My brain figured out all the curvatures, aiming line vs whatevers, etc years ago. I figure out tip position on CB and speed to get me where I want to go next. I don’t have to figure out the contact point, it’s always the small spot on the OB that makes it go in the hole

Well said.
Yes, keep it simple.
Yup, I'm a feel player.
I look for the point on the object ball that is furthest from the point in the pocket where I want the ball to go.
A little under the furthest point and you will clunk it.
A little over the furthest point and you will over cut it.
Throw is pretty much an unconscious maneuver that comes from hitting a million balls.

This thread won’t get argumentative like the other ones. It’s easy to stay civil if we all act like good conservatives. Let’s all celebrate this thread and get vaccinated!

Just trying to keep it civil.😉

Depends on thew shot. If its a very thin cut shot I use the edge. If its a long shot/or not too much of a cut I use center.

I aim contact point to contact point. Find contact point on the object ball then calculate the contact point on the cue ball. Then just bring them together. Simple 🤷
I watched a Jennifer Barretta match a couple days ago and she got over an iffy long shot with her ultra pedantic setup - and missed. It occurred to me then that method won't do squat without the exact shot locked down.
