Cutting Down Phenolic Tip/Ferrule Combo

What is the best way to achieve this? I am thinking of trimming my breaker's phenolic tip/ferrule combo to make it a phenolic ferrule and install a leather tip on it.

I realise it is essential to make it as flat as possible. How can I do this without going to the cueman? Id like to try doing this myself first before sending it to a cue repairman. If I do send it to the cueman, how much can i expect to be charged for trimming phenolic tips? I'm assuming it would be considered ferrule change.

please advise!

thank you!

It's very easy to do but you have to buy a lathe first. If you intend keeping the same ferrule then it would not be called a ferrule change. I normally charge around .13 cents for a job of this nature.

just take it to a repairman youll be glad you did i only charge for the cost of the tip no charge for facing off the phenolic and if you try this without a lathe your sure to botch the job.

thank you sirs!

repairman it is!

is 40$ for tip replacement pricey or normal? thats what im looking at right now.

This procedure shouldn't cost anymore than a routine tip install.
If you're OK with a $40 tip change, have at it.
I charge a little more than 1/2 that for Moori or Kamui installed.

This should be an easy fix for any cue repairman, but I would not recommend trying to do it yourself unless you have a lathe.

The cost for this repair can vary depending upon your location and who does the work for you, and if the person runs into any problems when they cut what you have flat for tip installation. Unfortunately not all these ferrule tip combinations are installed the same way, some are hollow threaded and screwed on the shaft tenon, and some are solid and have a turned down section that go's down the center of the shaft. Sometimes the hollow ones do not have a tenon that is flush inside which means that when the end is made flat it could open up a hollow area, and it will have to be turned down to the tenon or modified.

Good Luck

$12 for non-premium tip install.
Add $8 for California haz mat charge ( phenolic ).
