Cynergy vs. Revo

How do these two CF shafts compare in terms of deflection, power, and overall playability?
Besides price differences, which one would you choose and why? (Brand loyalty doesn't count.)

I last tried a Cynergy 5 years ago…

My impression at the time was the surface finish was rougher, and the cue ball deflection was higher, compared to the Revo.

Idk if it has changed since then.

The Revo does not come in 10.5mm shaft size while the Cynergy (and Rhino) do.
The Revo and the Cynergy have less straight pro taper than the Rhino.

They have a different feel in the hit.. I liked the way the revo hit better. None of the rest mattered to me.. if I don’t like the hit I’m not playing with it no matter what the deflection is. The only way your going to know is to hit with them and figure it out For yourself

As, trob said the only real way is try 'em out. I have a Cynergy and have tried the Revo. IMO, the Cynergy is more forgiving, easier to play with.

I tried a revo a few times. Debatable if it went into production. Somebody ordered a 12.4 and got an 11.8 before they were available. This revo is the only one I have shot with and it was awesome. Transferred power easier than a wooden shaft so you could hit easier, had the feel of a wooden shaft as far as hit, very little taper rise in the bridge area. I would like to have this shaft. However, I have no idea if the production REVO's are the same beast.

I bought a pig in a poke when I bought the 11.8 Cynergy. The one I got grew pretty rapidly in the bridge area. When new I could see the taper change at about six inches after it grew rapidly from the 11.8mm tip. The shaft surface did smooth out after twenty or thirty hours of play but I still don't care much for this shaft. It does transmit power well like the revo and it has a decent feel, not great but decent.

For me, I would have been better off putting the money I spent on the Cynergy towards a revo if the one I have shot with is typical. Unfortunately, nobody can judge a lot by the reviews of others. If you could get reviews from a couple dozen guys that might let you arrive at some consensus thoughts, or not. One thing, if you buy the Cynergy first I think you will lose less money on the resale if you don't like it.

Right now, I would buy the revo but I may not like the production shaft. I am pretty sure the one I like is a proto-type that got sent out accidentally.

I'd buy a rhino and I've hit w all 3. Minimal diff at best.

I have two Rhino shafts; their biggest issue is joint compatibility.

First I got a 3/8x10, which fit nicely on a McDermott but a bit tight on a Carmeli I have, and the joint thread is not perfectly centred, but no biggie. It does not fit a 3/8x10 modified pins like my 314 shaft does, but again, not a biggie.

Being quite happy with it, I've ordered a second shaft with a 5/16x14 oversized for a bunch of cues that I have—Jacoby/Schon/McDaniel/Scruggs. The shaft fits the McDaniels cues I have and the Scruggs but does not screw all the way on the Schons or the Jacoby. And again, the shaft is not centred.

Another annoying thing with the Rhino shafts is that the width at the joint is 21.5 mm, which is wider than any cue I have, while Predator and other companies make the shafts to be 21.3 mm, and that fits most cues in a much more acceptable manner.

It's really a shame because the shaft itself is pretty good. I guess the best way to go is to get a complete cue from them to get a perfect match, which is quite a good deal for someone who is looking for a cue with a CF shaft, but if you just want the shaft, those issues are there.

I also got the Rhino jump cue, which is absolutely great!

So basically I'm in the market for two CF shafts, one to fit a 3/8x10 modified and one in 5/16x14.

Since I've started this thread, I've already ordered a Cynargy with a 3/8x10 modified, and I'll probably get a Revo for the 5/16x14 when they'll be available...

I guess this way I would be able to satisfy my curiosity and get to try and compare them all.

Although today I went out shooting with the 314-2, and it made me think, why do I even bother? Hehehe.

I have a 5/16-14 rhino for a Joss and it lined up perfectly. Brass piloted insert. Couldn't be happier.

Apples to Apples (Cynergy 12.5 to Revo 12.4):
  • I think the Cynergy hits a little softer and more springy(?) than the Revo, which has a stiffer hit.
  • For deflection, I haven't had to noticeably change my aim between them so I'd say about the same.
  • Wearing a glove I can't feel a difference in finish, both are very smooth.
I've had issues miscuing with my Cuetec, but I think that's more the cue and tip feeling very different than I'm used to (Tiger Sniper v. Kamui Clear Black Soft).

Overall would say they're on equal footing, it's just preference in feel. I'd say the difference between the Revos (11.8/12.4/12.9) is greater than from the Revo 12.4 to the Cynergy 12.5. Could probably say the same for the Cynergy 10.5/11.8/12.5.

I used a friends revo for a while and really liked it. I ended up buying a cynergy and I don’t remember why. It’s a fine shaft but I almost always end up switching back to my 314 before im finished playing

I have a couple of Rhino shafts. The 5/16x14 fits on 3 out of 4. One I had to shave down the final thread for it to fit all the way down (at first I thought the pilot was too big) The 3/8 x10 shaft I ran a tap thru and now my 3/8x10 mod cues fit. How much of a difference is the .1 mm per side? I was thinking it is pretty small

1mm per side is quite noticeable and irritating, maybe not a big deal to many, but it bugs me :(
I thought about cutting the pins a bit but there is no way in hell I'm doing that, I rather loose a $180 shaft than a cue that is worth 5 to 10 times that.
I've ordered from ebay a tap for 5/16x14, I have no experiance in doing that nor am I sure what to do... but again, I rather destroy a $180 shaft and not a cue.

I agree!!
I have noticed hit from shaft size moreso than brand difference. An 11 hits diff than a 12 or 12.5,12.9, or 13. Imo, the hit and deflection increase w size. Enuf to notice the difference in my book.
