Does anyone have an idea what a newly refinished D-16 with ivory ferrule may sell for? I know the prices are down are D series Mcdermotts now,I'm just trying to decide on value.

Thanks
Andy

D series Mcdermotts

Andy,

Why are D- Series Mcdermotts down in price now ???
I did not hear this please let me know

Thanks

Part of the problem is overinflated estimates in value from the mcdermott website, and the BB of Cues. People have very nice cues and think they are worth what they see in print, but it is not the market value.
I had a D20 in pretty much mint condtion that I let go for under 400, when McD says they are worth 800-900. It may be worth that...... but getting someone to pay that is 2 different things.

Five to six years ago, maybe $400-$450....now, maybe $250-$325.

Part of the problem with McDermotts is for the past few years they have been remaking a lot of the old B-D line styles of cues. They are mostly variations, but they're close. Now the market is flooded with the old cues and new similar styled cues. That was one thing that differentiated the old lines (B, C, and D) and drove up interest in them then several years ago. The sharp points, wood inlays, etc....when they were making all that plastic and rounded stuff from the mid 90s on.

Another thing that's hurt McDermotts, is that fleabay is always loaded with cues being sold for roughly half or more off retail. Even these old style remakes. When you can buy a "$1000 retail cue" with a lifetime warrantee for $300 shipped, that's a no-brainer.....

When a manufacturer begins letting stuff like that happen, a common result is for the overall market on secondary cue sales to tank.

Thanks guys. The BB prices and Mcds prices are a mystery to me. Did they Dale Perry themselves? I knew a couple of guys on here had refinished D -19s and had trouble getting their money out of the refinish let alone the whole cue.
I'll play with mine then and enjoy it without worrying I've spent too much on a production cue.:) I'm a little over the 325 mark. I love the cue so I can definatley live with that.

Samsarakid24...There you have it in a nutshell. I hope you weren't being sarcastickid 24:rolleyes:

I see a poster here, who also has a ebay store, has a lot of them with pretty high asking prices.

Thanks again
Andy

Just like with anything it's only worth what someone is willing to pay...it's all about the right buyer coming along at the right time....

Thanks guys...It's not for sale in the forseeable future I just wanted some input on value. I didn't want to sink a lot of money into something that will not allow me to recoup down the road. Sorta like putting 1500 dollars worth of stereo into a 500 dollar car...It's still a 500 hundred dollar car. I'm comfortable with the 350 I've got in it but I don't think I'll splurge on getting a new matching shaft made.

So if anyone has a D-16 shaft let me know;) ( I really just need the rings)

Thanks
Andy
