Daily Ghost Results.. Races to 9 + video

I was posting a few results in the "who can beat the 9 ball ghost" thread, but that thread has some "negativity" in it (namely by me mr. skeptic). In any event, there was alot of discussion in there about how many people could beat it, what level of player it takes to beat it, and beat it consistently, and finally started getting to the definitions of levels of players.

That being said, I know alot of guys have been playing the ghost a set or two just to give it a shot (myself being one of them) just to see what kind of scores they can put up. One guy just beat the ghost 9 : 2!

In any event I figured if anyone else out there is trying it as well, you could post the daily results of your ghost sets in this thread to measure improvement, etc..

Obviously It's hard to compare apples to apples becuase of the obvious equipment changes, but I figured pocket size is probably the single most important factor in that so much like a lot of guys signiatures we could just list what we played on like..

9' Murrey
4 1/4 pockets (Or you could list it as.. 2 balls won't enter the points, or 2 balls won't enter the pocket at the jaws etc...) Just a brief description, or perhaps a picture of 2 balls in a pocket if you have a camera handy?

When I 1st started playing the ghost I was losing 2 : 9 or there abouts, but now that I've been playing it for a couple weeks I'm getting up to 5 : 9. 99% of that has to do with the break, it's completely different then normal 9 ball, and I've figured a way to get alot more 9 ball action and since I'm getting BIH after the break I don't care about shape on the one.. Resulting in more combo's, carom's and 9 ball breaks per set.

That being said I had a buddy over last night and we were playing some pool, and drinking more then a couple beers. At the end of the night I played some ghost sets after everyone crashed out. Surprisingly even with the beers I put up one of my best scores yet! :)

The rules I play by (you play by your own, but if they vary maybe throw them up to let us know what's different?)

Break BIH
Foul on Break = Loss
All "legal" shots count. I.E. 9 ball can be made out of rotation on a legal shot
Any miss results in loss
Cue Ball Fouls Only. I.E. If you bump an object ball just put it back to the best of your abillities.

Results for Last night are :

Location : Home
Table : Murrey 9'
Pocket Size : 4 1/4 (straight cut, 2 balls won't go between the points)

I have video of the 5:9 set and will post it in this post later today when I get it edited up. :)

Like it that your ghost scores are improving! Keep it up. Would love to see the video bro.

I'm going to head home a little early today and edit it up. Should be up by 4 o clock Pacific. Honestly it wasn't all that impressive of a set. I ran the 1st rack, made a 9 ball break, had I think 2 combinations, and ran another rack to get to 5. None the less though it was an honest 5 : 9 score on the ghost sooo... ;)

I'm itching to try this, and hope to get a couple of sets in tonight before League. Work is getting in the way of my pool right now

ps could u also post who had 5 and who had 9  JUST to be sure

Believe me if I had 9 and the ghost had 5 the title of the thread would be different.. :D Read something more like "The Ghost is my *****" :D

I was always told that the # you say first implies your #, and the second # is the opponent. I.E. 5 : 9 5(being my score) : 9(being the ghosts score)

Your right though I should've clarified that more.

Plynsets,

You gave me the idea so I picked up a digital camcorder. I recorded myself playing the ghost a week ago in a race to 9 on my table. I mounted the camera at almost ceiling level and used additional lighting - I think it came out good.

I had a "made for tv" match with the ghost. My table has 4" corners and 4.5" sides - it's difficult but if you make the shot, it drops. I was on the hill at something like 8 to 5, ran out to the 9 and dogged a down-the-rail cut shot on the 9 I should make 95% of the time. I lost the next few games and it got to hill-hill 8 to 8. My heart was actually beating a little fast and I was nervous! I then ran out a very difficult table for the win. It's actually exciting viewing the match, but the tape is long and the file size is huge - I have no clue how to post it up.

I played the ghost for the first time last night. I was only playing to 5 since I heard that he wasn't as good at faster sets. My best score after 5 sets was 3:5. I'd guess that if I had played to 9, my scores would have been around 3-5:9. This was on a pretty easy table, probably 5" pockets. I was pleased with the results for my first time. It really gave me a chance to work on my break too. I like that I don't keep trying to run out after I lose, just rack and break 'em. Makes it seem like actual practice instead of playing by myself.

After that I played 14.1 BIH break and run till I miss. I made it to 100 in 19 innings. That game needs some work, but I was still pleased to have an average over 5. My main problems there are standing up on the "easy" shots and not paying attention to position when I'm behind the rack. I keep assuming I'll have shape... stupid stupid stupid;-)

Nah.. It was perfectly clear. You said:

and then mentioned your results as 5:9 and 4:9. Doesn't get any clearer than that.

You know reading is hard for some peeps, tho... :p

I played 2 races to 10 against the 10 ball ghost the other night on a brand new diamond pro with 4 1/2 inch pockets. The first set I wasn't breaking very well, with balls being tied up after the break a lot, but I came from behind to win 10-8. The next set my break started working better, and I destroyed it 10-2. I was quite pleased with this, and it was a good warmup for the tournament in West Palm Beach this weekend.

Is the tape one of those little digital tapes? Looks like a miniature VHS tape about 2 1/2 inches long I'd guess? If it is I'm going to be up your way this weekend. I'll grab the tape and edit it up for you and post it. :) I'm heading to Glendale for a BBQ class and will be there from 8 in the morning to approximately 5'ish that night. I can swing by any of the pool halls up there.

Yes, it's a mini-dv tape. Thanks for the offer - please PM me with your schedule, what days, cell phone etc. and I'll make arrangements to meet you somewhere.

Is it a tape? or an actual little disc? I'm not sure if I can do anything with the disc?

Sorry, it's a little tape - they call them Mini-DV.

I'll write a little description for the race, rack by rack.

The ghost is a very strong player. I would not want to gamble heads up with him. I believe that he would break me even playing 2:1 odds.
I think I should be allowed to play a jam up safety, and then the ghost has to kick out!! Then we would be more even. I mean sometimes I just cant get to a break out spot on a cluster. Normally I would either hook you there, or a shot or two in advance so i could set up a break out, but the GHOST wont have anything to do with that.

4" corners....very impressive. Are they 4 at the front of the pocket, or at the back, just out of curiousity?

I imagine that constitutes triple shim? At any rate, bravo on the performance.

Well I've tried every way I know how to edit this video up, but the bottom line is my laptop just doesn't have the nuts to render a video that long, so I have to put it up rack by rack. :( i wanted to put it up uninterrupted so people couldn't question the integrity of the set.. Guess your gonna have to take my word for it.

Should I put up all 14 games? (5 : 9) or just the 5 that I won is the question? Alot of those games are literally missing the 2 ball for whatever reason etc..
