Dale Perry Cues

I have a friend who swears by DP cues. He has 4 or 5 of them, his main player is a DP with the DPR shaft and ivory ferrule/moori tip but thats more like $400 - $500.
Ill give it credit as, with those modifications, it does hit better than most production cues. I still think im stickin with my Josey... :yeah:

I would suggest looking around here, you can find some great deals on much better players than a DP.

Good luck with your search!!

Joe

I have 3 DP's and I like all of them. You can't get a better cue for the price. I paid about $150 for each with shipping. Johnnyt

Dale Perry cues

I have been playing with a Dale Perry cue for 4 years now.It is a great looking cue (tulipwood and gabon ebony).I don't see how you can go wrong with one of his cues.

The two I have kept, one played (on the right) and one not. I don't think there is a better value for price/performance and resale value. I could easily get my money back out of either of these cues.

I've never seen him claim "bone ivory" in any of his listings. I have seen a few of his listings that were mixed up so far as description vs pictured cue, but those usually come in twos.

The regular shaft taper does leave a bit to be desired and I know there is better shaft wood still available, but overall I'm very pleased with his work.

> I bought a one-off variation of his Speedster model for 130.00 with 2 shafts from a friend that bought it at a tournament. It had been well-used but not abused. It was a VERY nice piece of curly maple,4 ebony points into an ebony butt much like a SP,but with a nice ebony/silver/maple ring set at the bottom of the points and above the butt cap. It had a fairly large ivory-looking diamond in each point, and 4 large inlays above the butt. The joint was a typical Perry mainstay, thinwalled SS collar over phenolic and wood, flatfaced with the Radial pin. The joint wasn't all that tight for a Radial, but much nicer than a brand-new McDermott. Shafts were nice and straight, clear grained but not the dead-white stuff. The ferrules were something close to LBM,and VERY clean.

For 130.00,that was the best looking and best hitting cue I've personally ever seen for that amount of money. Overall, the quality was quite good.

The ONLY problem I found with this cue was the SS joint collar was loose when I got it. These thin-walled joint collars are not threaded on,the cue had went from hot to cold and vice versa a bunch of times, and it suffered a glue failure.

I can't blame anyone but the previous owners for that. Even if a cue is not slammed around by the owner, leaving it out in your vehicle can cause ANY cue to suffer the same kind of failure, regardless of who made it.

I fixed it,and could not believe how good it played for what I paid for it. I sold it a few weeks later for 275.00.

There are reports of him having quality control issues, and spotty customer service. Some knock him for his Ebay deals and what his business model has done to guys that once bought high-end cues from him. I can't call myself a member of either of those groups.

My honest assessment is for what he charges for a basic cue from his Ebay store, you probably won't find a better cue in that price range. Tommy D.

i bought 2 of Dale's cues online through ebay. they play great! he customized the weight and shafts exactly as i asked. the work is CNC'd, but they play fantastic. if you like a big radial pin, then you will like them.

My fiancé plays with a custom ordered Dale and it plays great even though the hit is not my personal taste. A friend of my has one of the Ebay cues and it plays good but not quite the quality of the full custom he made. His older cues seem to hit better which is understandable since he turned into a semi-production cue maker. Each cue is unique but there are a run of the same pattern with different materials in the pattern. If you want a good true custom cue for the money simply call Dale and make your order. It will run you around $450 if you don't use any exotic materials. I strongly recommend one of his coco bola cues. That is his favorite wood and he knows how to pick it.

for 100-200 dollars you cant go wrong with a perry...they are Definately better than Cuetec, stealth or other cheapos in that range.

for 200 id go with Falcon, joss or Schmeltke(spell??)

I have 2. His newer stuff does not hit nearly as good as the older DP cues.

My 1996 DP hits like a tank, and I will never sell it.
Dont know when he went radial. But my 96 is a Uni-loc.

The 2008 or 09 I have hits like a cheaper cue.
I would like to try his DPR shaft on the newer cue.

Oh, and for the price. The art work is fantastic.
