I've found a nice classy looking dale perry cue online, and I have never heard of them or talked to anyone who has played with them, so does anyone out there have an idea about them or shot with one? any comments would be great.

thanks

I have owned a few of the older DP cues, maybe 3 years ago+, and they seemed to be a good value and played well usually under $300.

I have seen some of the new DPs and feel the quality has gone down significantly.

The upside, they can be bought on ebay oftentimes under $200 and are made in the USA.

The downside, the new DP cue's QC and customer service is lousy (my personal experience) and the materials used leave much to be desired, lots of plastic inlays, low end wraps, misaligned rings, etc.

At one point you got a pretty good bang for the buck; not so much anymore.

There are better options, I feel, in the approx $200 range.

Best,

IMO, Dale's cues are great for the money. I have shot with one and they play well. I'm guessing you found it on ebay? Ten years ago, you couldn't touch his cues for what they are selling on ebay for now. The quality is not as it used to be though. If you search the forums for "Dale Perry" you will find a lot of information on his cues...some good, and some bad. Everyone on here has an opinion about his cues, but you know what they say about opinions...... Form your own. For the few hundred you (just a guess) may pay for it, it's a good deal.

like a few people have said his older cues were much much better quality and i havent personally had to deal with customer service but i met him once and was talking about his cues and all he really seemed concerned with was getting as much money as possible out of it all he cared about was the money and nothing else. If you didnt talk about actually buying it he didnt even care to talk to you, my friends booth was next to his and he told me that a few people had told him where to shove his cues because he was so rude

Must not have looked too hard!

And I should have added that Dale Perry is a member of the American Cuemakers Association and so there is no doubt that the talent and capabilities are there.

I just think that their quality has suffered from mass production. At pretty much any given time, there are well over 50 new DP cues for sale on ebay.

To put it into perspective, Tony at Black Boar may turn out 15 - 20 new cues per year.

I know, $200 vs $10k.

The "mass production" theory isn't exactly fair. There is more to the story that just that. Google it, and you'll find out more about what's going on...like K knight said....more than you will ever care to know. Schon, Predator, Viking, Falcon, and Mezz to name a few, are mass production cues brands, and have an outstanding reputations.

I bought one on E-bay and didn't really like the shaft. I had a McDermott I-3 that fitted it and what a great combination. The balance was perfect. I've been using it as my player for about 2 years now and really like it.

Great results

I was curious and had some extra money to spend so I ordered a DP6-5
4 weeks ago. I wanted a cue with tourquois and I like the design of this cue. I looked at all of the posts on this site and while there are an abundance of negative threads pertaining to monetary value of Dale Paerry cues there were only a few negative posts about workmanship. The cue is listed at $900.00 on his website (not an ebay cue) and I was willing to pay that amount because I like the design and materials. When I called Dale answered and I told him who I was and what I wanted. He was polite, to the point, asked what options I wanted, and told me he would make the cue for $750.00. I was pleased and paid with my card. I received the cue 4 weeks later almost to the day. I carefully inspected it with both shafts and have to say that I am VERY pleased with the outcome. The points are even, the wrap is nice and tight, the finish is smooth, no bumps or raised spots on the rings or material transitions. The shaft diameters are perfect and the weight is exactly what I ordered. Someone payed attention to this cue as it was being made. I know that I can not turn around and sell this cue for what I payed but I can't sell my wife's new car for what I just payed either. Both were bought to be used daily and not as an investment. In my opinion if you want a good solid cue to play with this is a cue maker to look at. I do not have an ebay cue so I cannot give an opinion.

To sum up Dale Perry. He is a talented cue maker with poor business ethics. His new cues aren't near the quality of his older ones but the price is adjusted accordingly. If he would have came out with a production line with a different logo or series name instead of boasting every cue as a 1/1 he would be much better thought of today. He did what he thought was the only thing he could do to survive this ecomony which destroyed his reputation and cue value. If you can get past all that. He will build you a custom cue to your specs for around $400 today which is hard to find.

PS- He often is an arrogant (*&^

No kidding...

Have you ever used the search function on a website? You will find more about Dale Perry Cues than you ever wanted to know.

well seeing as how im basically in essence using a search engine that is full of real people giving me real feedback if I have any specific questions I'd get off of my forum high horse and just not comment if you've got nothing productive to say..

I would pass on any DP cue IMO. I have read way too much on poor customer service on DP cues. You are free to do what you want but, beware!

I also bought a couple of his ebay sticks, had a few problems but, Dale took care of them and made me satisfied. The stock shaft is 13 mm and feels big, he will turn it down at no cost and weight the stick. I heard from a couple people that Dale is training somebody and they are making the ebay sticks,, thus the lesser quality. I saw him at the Super Billiard Expo and asked about it, he changed the subject so it is probably true. The custom stick for $750.00 I would guess was made by him. If you want a better shaft I picked up a DP-X, its tapered like a Z2(11.75mm) shaft but stiffer, it plays nice.

I have owned several of his cues. I think this...for the money, it's a great cue. I have had Dale build me some customs to my specs and they were great. And I have purchased some ebay DPs and the quality is not as good. You get what you pay for.

I like Dale personally and consider him to be a businessman trying to make a living the best way he knows how. Sure, he may sell lesser quality cues on ebay, but everyone can not buy a 500-1000 dollar cue. I feel he provides a service to cater everyone. If you want a great quality cue, have Dale built you a custom. If yoou want a lesser quality cue, buy a ebay DP. If he sells 10 ebay cues a week, for 150.00 a cue, thats 6000.00 a month in sales. How many cuemakers are doing this...that is cuemakers of which the general public can afford.

Bottom Line is...we all have a choice! And I personally like his cues.

Just my $.02..

And I have NEVER seen 50 DP cues on ebay at one time...beleive me, I look.

Ease up crusher. My horse ain't high, I'm afraid of heights... All I'm saying is there have been a ton of threads about Dale Perry Cues on this site. If you just searched for them you would have all the info you need and more much faster than starting up a new thread and waiting for replies.

As for the one I won in the raffle. DP cues offer a lot of cue for the money and are great for players starting their search for the cue that is right for them. The one I won is available for $150 shipped if anyone is interested. (unchalked, brand new 1 of 1 with a certificate of authenticity)

gotta love the internet smart asses.. finding the search button isnt that hard, dont think the picture was necessary. I would just rather have a personal exchange with people rather than looking at others questions. You get more specific answers that way.

My girlfriend bought this cue as well awhile back. There were a couple of inlays that were completely fudged up. She had to send it back to get it fixed and was told a couple of weeks. She followed up a couple of weeks and he said it was shipping later in the week. The following week she asked again and he said it was shipping that Wednesday. 2 weeks after that she called and talked to his assistant who told her he hadn't started on it yet and was waiting for matching turquoise to come in. All he had to do was to say that instead of lie. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. However, that being said she really likes her cue on how it looks and plays.

Our experience is bad customer service, and nice product when fixed for her. I just hope she never wants to sell it because the resale value is very looooow on DPs.
