what do you guys think dales cues/custom or production he/they at least 30 cues daily on ebay. production or custom?

Production or at best semi-custom. Lot's of people bag on Dale around here but he is selling his cues for a very reasonable price and the quality is good for what they cost.

I think the quality is where the cues lack.

They're great priced cues with "real" inlays. Pretty things. But quality... they are not.

The guy has the knowledge, skill, and acess to materials to build 2K cues and up. He did until the mid 90's as a matter of fact. Great players, and made very well. This is what I consider to be such a (however debatable) waste. The man CAN make a very high quality cue, but he as chosen not to. Not to say that you won't find a winner in one of his more recent cues. I've always considered wood to be a highly inconsistent variable so it's possible to get a nice hit/play out of a shaft that came from a batch of wood most cue makers would toss out. But at the prices he sells them for now, there is no way he can possibly be as selective with materials, as selective with his craftsmanship, and sticky with quality control as he was before the mid 90's when his cues were selling for much much more..................and worth it at the time.

Well said.

New to the forum but have been here long enough, perhaps, to understand why some long time cue collectors, traders, enthusiasts may resent DP for changing his business model and possibly causing their cues to "devalue" idk for sure but I think that is the deal.

But disregarding my noobie status I still challenge the "quality" issue. I just bought a DP cue (2nd or 3rd hand I think) represented to be a non specific "few years" old. I love the cue. Beautiful finish, 5 inlaid (ivorine I guess) points with some other (quartzish inlay inside those). The cue is signed "Dale Perry 1/1". The shaft is labeled DP-R. The weight is perfect for me but is adjustable if I ever want to adjust it. The shaft diameter and taper are perfect for me.

I would guess that the current Men's or Women's world champions could have won their championships with this cue and it appears to me built to last 50+ years if respected and maintained.

Objectively, not including sour grapes, what are the quality issues that make this cue a problem? This question is legitmate and not intended to provoke. I am just curious.

:shakehead:

He doesn't sell nearly as many as Joss or Meucci.

His cues are the best deal out there.

Too bad I paid between $200-$300 for all mine 5 years ago.:sorry:

I think I'm stuck with them for a while....

It all depends what your definition of custom vs production is, which probably has dozens of threads devoted to attempting to define that :D
