I notice that there are a lot of Dale Perry cues on Ebay. They appear to look good and are very reasonably priced. Does anyone have any experience using these cues and are they good quality playing cues. Most seem to sell for around $300.00 or less. Any feedback would be appreciated as a friend of mine is considering bying one and I cannot offer any firat hane advise.

Thanks

have another beer wedge, and type "dale perry" in the search box

I just got one from e-bay, it's sweet, payed $250,(comes w/ the gold leaf cert. & DP receipt) it's a level 4 cue in the 3rd BB min. value says 800? I'm not sure what he's doin, I guess he's taking a different approach, volume over reputation. I'm thinkin about buying a few more and gamble that they'll be worth something one day. radial pin, its got a great crisp hit.

Thanks...good call on the beer...I'm one short of a 12 pack right now...scary that you guessed that from my spelling errors. Friday night you know!!!

He;s not too well liked because of the change to his business model.

His cues are awesome. He still uses the same wood and they play great. excellent craftsmanship. People don't like him here because they had paid a lot for his cues, they used to be worth a WHOLE lot and when he changed his business model they couldn't get rid of them

Why is he not to well liked? Too many old school purists that like Scruggs, Southwest, Buss, Gina and the likes???

heard all but bad about dale's cues. never tried one myself

That's a good call about changing his business model. I bought 4 custom cues from Danny Janes (Joss Cues)in the early to mid 70's. At that time all his cues were custom. Now he rarely makes a cuatom cue but all his production cues are of exeptional quality. Seems like Dale Perry is following his business model. Danny Janes is in the cue makers hall of fame...food for thought!!!

The real problem was that Dale had a good amount of dealers selling his cues at fairly expensive prices. He was turning out a decent, but not over bearing quantity of cues that were good quality. Then Dale decided to under cut all his dealers on ebay, making the cues that had sold for 1k or more worth half or less. People who had spent good money on his cues now had zero return on their purchase if they decided to sell the cues.

He also started pumping out a lot of cues, all of them 1 of 1 even they are so close to the same that its hard to find what makes them 1 of 1. His quality suffered, repair work suffered, and his cues became low dollar first time buyers cues. For what they are they aren't bad cues, but don't expect to make your money back unless you find some bar banger that has never seen the internet.

I bought one off of fleabay just to see what it was all about. I have a good friend that has one of the formerly expensive ones and it hits an looks great. However, the one I got played as well as most 200-300 dollar cues but nothing special, looked pretty nice though. I managed to sell it to a guy at my local room. I made exactly $2.00 on the deal bought for 298.00 shipped... sold for a cool 3 bills WHOOHOO Let's just say I was happy to unload it.

I bought one a few years back.

Still my every day player and its a good cue for the money ime.

I do now own a Pat Diviney which will be replace the Dale P cue after I have some work done though. The Perry is good for the money (again, ime) but for that same money I'd contact Pat and see what he can do.The "look" may not be there for the same money (really don't know so you'll have to ask) but by good golly dam the hit, balance and feel of the Diviney is in another class imo.

DP Cues

I own 2 of them and they have a great hit. The folks that tell you there are "repair problems" or "quality issues" are saying that because they can't resell them and make a buck. The ones he makes now are the same as he made a few years ago. He simply decided to give himself a raise and change his business model. I don't know if he hosed any dealers as a result but if he did, that may not have been a good business decision.

My opinion is that if you're buying a pool cue as an investment, and it's anything other than an "art cue", you clearly have more money than brains. Pool cues are made to play the game.

Brian in VA - my opinion only, your mileage may vary

Dale is the only ACA Member who reguarally sells his Cues on E-bay, I have had the opportunity to play with one of his cue, and it hit fine for the price paid.

Value for dollar spent is good IMHO

I live in the Orange Park, FL area where Dale has his shop. I see a lot of his cues on league night and can say they are very nice looking cues. I haven't shot with one so I can't vouch for playability.
