Damn, I never saw this clip before...

Mike Segil seems like an a hole from the footage I have watched. Efren took him to school when they played that 8 ball challenge... probably the first time efren played 8 ball too lol.

Wow. That was pretty nasty. Nobody went to school that day except the spectators IMHO. For years Efren was known as Mr Second Place or The Bridesmaid, in no small part because of Mike Sigel. Regardless of what you might think about Mike's personality he is very respected by Efren. Very few reach the level of play those men have. And FYI Efren played a lot of 8 ball before that...and won championships playing 8 ball long before that. And so did Sigel.

You edited your post and removed some more harsh commentary about Mike Sigel.

I think it's fine not to like a player for whatever reasons though it's good to have real reasons for it. I do know there are others who feel MS is arrogant and they don't care for him for that reason.

BUT

To say Mike Sigel was an "overrated" player, that's just plain incorrect.

You posted a link with him at his worst in a match late in his career.

Please review his overall accomplishments and titles won. Hopefully you will see how great of a player he really was.

Well overrated might be a little harsh...but he looks like he is fighting every shot...no flow at all. It must be exhausting for him to play...its certainly exhausting to watch.

aren't you able to find any videos with him playing a little better? :)

He could certainly play the game but I hated watching him play. In that video it took 2:36 for those 3 shots. If anyone ever NEEDED a shot clock EVERY game,it was Mike !!! LOL

I guess you have never heard efren asked who his toughest american opponent has been.his answer is sigel( not earl,etc...) but when he was asked about mark tads game( back in the 90,s ) he said he plays just like sigel. Pretty strong compliment.

I can certainly understand the frustration. I get pissed if I miss a crosstown bus.
The shot clock idea is a good one. If Sigel were ever to play Pagulayan a game of One Pocket, the table time alone could equal the national debt.
Finally, I'm glad the vests, and bowties, were outlawed for tournament and recreational play.

Indeed. And to be fair it wasn't even late in his career, in fact he was already retired for some time, so it was after his career.

I agree with all you said, Kicken.
MS is certainly NOT overrated.

I can understand though if Markster is not privy to MS's accomplishments and would
offer less-than-desirable language.

Perhaps if Markster reviews MS's pool CV, he/she might have a different bent.

I know Sigel is generally unpopular because of his arrogance, and because he retired from serious competition nearly 25 years ago (so many younger pool fans did not get to see him in his prime), but in my opinion he is easily one of the top 10 players of the 20th century.

Mike is very arrogant yes, but also from my experience actually a pretty nice guy in many ways. He actually played me for free once, just for fun. How many current players would do that? And at the time I was a low B player. He was ready with advice and actually seemed to enjoy knocking the balls around. And he is one of the great players of all time.

Not sure how relevant this is to the conversation. But.........

In an interview,( forgot where and when) Efren was asked what players he likes to play against. I was very surprised to hear him say Mike Sigel's name first.
