I love listening to Danny.

During the Efren v SVB match, Billy had fun ribbing Danny about this. Danny said "well, I'm making it exciting for the viewers. they got a little rise out of that". Just then SVB was aiming at a long bank and Billy said "ok, let me try this... He made it!... He made it!... He made it!... Ohh, he missed it by a diamond."

I needed to hear that...Danny and Billy are very comfortable with each other....
.....they've been on the road together.
I would like to see this icon get a little more respect in his old age....

I like Danny and read his book. He was a great player and made some interesting observations during this event. Most of the younger announcers are a problem. I turned the sound off on the Alex/ Frost 5 day match. Today , in both of Efren's matches, Danny made some very insightful calls.

I typically don't like Danny at all but he made some pretty good calls this week. I like Frost in the booth and would have liked to hear him and Billy together. Although not invited, I also like Schmidt in the booth when he is around.
I'd love to hear Schmidt, too. Seems pretty intelligent.
Danny d is by far worst commentator at the big event level

Danny seems to be having severe depth perception problems among other vision issues.
things that were very apparent on the stream, he missed all the time. he couldnt tell when balls were bankable, if a ball was seeable or if a ball was beside or behind another ball. It makes it hard to call any shot right when you dont really see the layout to begin with. Billy seemed to use the monitor a lot while Danny didn't. He could have had a bad seat for it i suppose. Still i'll take Danny over 90% of the amateurs that get on the mic-follow?

I have to agree on John Schmidt, he is excellent. Itjust seems guys like to pick up on Danny's mistakes...Look for Frosts miss calls next time. He make s a lot but is smooth after. There a many many worse in the booth. Danny picked up quick on many multi purpose shots in this round robin and to his critics, "getting old is not for sissies". I enjoy him.
Golf is a great game...when Gary Player shows up to an event, all the golfers give
him much respect....they're actually happy to see him and they listen to his words of wisdom.
Danny Diliberto is about about the same age as Mr Player......
...many of us think of Mr Diliberto the same way...we appreciate his wit and wisdom.
It would be nice if you could find it in your heart to not lobby for Double D's early
retirement....if we pool players don't respect our game and history...who will?
Everybody misses balls from the booth. Danny and Billy are still by far my favorites. You won't get much better insight and personality than those two. I also agree that Schmidt would be great in the booth. Sharp, nice guy with real opinions.
I really enjoy Scott Frost's insight and imagination, but put him in the booth after he loses and he won't shut up about how many rolls the other guy got.

I enjoy DannyD and BillyI in the booth, together or apart. Knowledge, perspective and humor.
I don't care if a commentator makes the wrong call; they've got no better view of the table than we do. Does the 3-ball pass the 7-ball? Sometimes it looks like "no way" so the commentator bases his comments on that...but it turns out it does pass.
The only current players who do well in the booth are Earl, Schmidt and Deuel (I'm sure there are others who I just haven't heard). But most of the current players (i.e. played in the tournament, but were eliminated) spend most of their time making excuses about why they lost. Ya know what? I don't want to hear it, especially every five minutes, on-and-on-and-on. It gets old real fast. (Lots of respect for Deuel, who usually says "I played well. He just played better.")

Danny is a very good friend. So Im not going to comment either way. He is a champion and that is all needs to be said by me.
But one thing I will say. When I asked him what he thought about criticism he said.
"Don't worry when I go, they'll all say they loved me.".
He told me he is lucky to be alive today with all he has gone through and every day he gets to be a part of the pool world is a blessing to him.
How many of us can say the same.

I usually dont mind listening to Danny D in the booth but for some reason this time i just couldnt handle it had to mute it. He is one person you can truly learn by listening to but you gotta bare with him most of the time. I think the best commentary of a 1pocket match i have ever heard was when big truck had Scott Rabon in the booth at one of the big entry 1pocket tournament and Josh Roberts stopped by and they did commentary togther. Was the perfect balance of road stories and actual strategy about the current game
