Darren Forfeits Beloit

Fixed it for you.

Yes, so much better. Because had it been under $2k, the game of pool would have been saved, folks in America would not think less of pool, and they would be buying streams every week and attending the MC this year :boring2:

I think you're wrong. These things have a way of taking on a life of their own and resurrecting themselves at the most inconvenient times.

Like if he should ever sleep a tournament match again; or the next time he chooses to kvetch about "professionalism" in pool; or maybe the MC later this year. Personally I'd think it'd be a hoot if 200 guys showed up at the Tropicana MC arena, ala Flavor Flav :-)

Go for it Lou... I'm sure you'll be a hit. btw I'm borderline impressed you know who flavor flav is. Is he doing AARP commercials these days?

Since the $2450 is no big deal maybe you would be willing to reimburse the man?

Betting on anyone except SVB to come in third or better in a field of 16 champions and potential champions was a low-percentage bet, assuming the brackets formed up randomly. I don't know how anyone calculated their Calcutta bet, but if they did not include any percentage calculations, if they went with 'just a feeling' or something so feelie-goodie as 'Appleton has always been a pro', that is a recipe for losing their bet. But nobody need believe me, I'm just an ordinary guy with a useless IQ number so embarrassingly high that I decided to huff glue all my life, brain-burning cells until I got it down to only a few score points above normal.

I don't mean any personal attacks, but some of the subjects being denigrating are well established facts, and if anyone does not want to wise up that's none of my business. I just get a kick out of presenting facts.

Think you're off on how well Darren plays, there's a reason the bids were so close -coulda went either way

It sucks you lost the money. Not sure what else to tell ya. You had a good horse but even tight rope walkers lose their balance from time to time.

I'm not looking for anyone to tell me anything. I've already said repeatedly...NOBODY OWES ME ANYTHING.... I WANT NOTHING.

But I do think there are some interesting points that are being discussed in this thread...most interesting to me is whether Calcuttas benefit anyone other than the gamblers. And whether you are supporting pro pool by participating in them.

What I don't like are people telling me to "give it a rest"...especially when i've witnessed those exact same people post ad nauseam about topics that are of interest to them.

I would suggest your knowledge of pool, statistics, and the English language fall a bit short of the AZB baseline.

It's an interesting discussion and I know if it were me I would be beyond pissed about this....$2k to me isn't chump change and even though yes it's my own risk I would still probably be venting hard core on here....much harder than you have been so kudos for keeping your cool for the most part about it.

Matt <---- will stick to $50-100 calcuttas and backing %s of poker players

WOW, when you miss a point, you really miss a point. It was suggested that lack of professionalism like what happened is the cause of pools decline. I suggested it has NOTHING to do with pools declines, hence my post about not having an impact on pool.

And you're right, $2450 is not a big deal to me. But I'd burn the money before I gave it to someone complaining about the loss.

But it's called gambling for a reason and big boys know that going in. Must be why this is confusing you. So, go ask your backers for a complete break down regarding the rules of gambling.

DA never made it to the gate -- there was no gamble and the buyer got no action for his dough.

So are you honestly saying that pool's long term track record of unprofessional behavior has nothing to do with the pitiful state of professional pool in this country?
