David Howard

David Howard, also wrote an article or two in "On The Snap" magazine [out of print]. One article was about the 9Ball Break. He also ran an ad for Lil David Billiard Supply, in the magazine. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this might been the only article he did??? I know he did a couple of videos.

As I recall it was only the one article in the On The Snap magazine when it was still being published. I think that particular magazine is one of the more sought after Snap issues on the second-hand market.

David wrote a monthly column for Pool & Billiard magazine called "Advanced Play" at one time. He wrote for them in the early 90's.

It's too bad that Snap magazine went under as I liked their articles & coverage of the satellite tours. I thought it was a good publication.
 
i watched him play in the us open wed. night and he acted like a compleate ass. Lost al respect i ever had 4 him. Btw he was playing Rick howard and he was a perfect gentleman. Liked seeing little david there untin he acted the way he did.
 
lest we forget David's appearence the finals against Allen Hopkins for the Cleveland 10-Ball tournament. He beat Nick Varner in the semis. circa 1989.
 
I figure since there are some of you that can get in touch with him sometime soon, have him read this thread, and then my message: David Howard, I hope you get your game back in gear, and you kick some ass again! Winning the US Open once is a great feat, but TWICE means you are an absoloute monster at the game. And plus, since the IPT 8-ball is nothing but a breaking contest, from what I've heard about your break, YOU JUST MIGHT BE A HUGE FAVORITE! GO DAVE HOWARD, KICK SOME ASS LIKE YOU USED TO!!! This is from a fan who has never seen you play, but heard some incredible stories.

And can someone recommend some real good accustats matches featuring D.Howard when he was in his prime? thanks

I went with Emil & Elyria Tony Gumina to Pittsburg & Emil played Jimmy w/ the 7 & the break. I beleive Emil finally ground him out but it was tough!. Last I saw Emil was in the 80's in Greensboro NC.

I would suggest you look for these on the second-hand market. Unfortunately they're all out of print so you may have a bit of a search ahead of you.

Howard v. Varner - Cleveland Classic 10-ball

Howard v. Hatch - 1991 U.S. Open
Howard v. Hall - 1992 Rak 'm Up Classic

David would give me the Wild 7 when he was in town. This was back in 1987 and 1988. David, Tommy Kennedy and another good road player named Ralph, (never knew his last name) would come down here once or twice a year. David was always very nice to me, always willing to help out another player. The last time I played with him, we were Hill-Hill race to 7 and he left me safe with the cue ball near the head rail and the 8 ball just off the foot rail. I decided to go for broke and try and spin the 8 in with a ton of inside, I shoot and the cue ball swerved so much, it went rail first, and kicked the 8 in the long corner where I was standing, and the Cue ball
dead stopped with a perfect shot on the 9. David looked at me with that grin he had, and said, no more spot for you, we play even next time.
I left the Pool room feeling like a Million Buck's that day.:D
 
His pool hall is on Timuquana BLVD in Jacksonville, Nicest guy in the biz. Had time to talk to him while he put a ferrule and tip on my cue a couple years. Think they have a round robin 9 ball tourney there every Sunday, but I've been out of Jax for two years now.
 
David was not in Sigel or Earl or Buddy Hall level, but would have been around the bottom of the top ten in my opinion. That is still pretty strong. Not middle of the field, but not top of the top either.
 
Got this Meucci, guess a DH-1 was supposedly signed by him at the 1994 World 9-Ball Tournament in Las Vegas

Agreed, but he was very, very close. In the mid 80s, he would probably win 40% of his matches against these three. He was a threat to win any tournament he entered.

He was not at all an all around player. 9 ball was his strong game. He also played good on the bar table.
