Davis finished by Sly

Last year for my birthday, I purchased a Davis long-splice blank from Superior Cues. I was in no hurry to have it finished as I would consider the completed cue this year's birthday present to myself. Having had a couple of Leon's cues that I liked very much, I decided he would be my cuemaker of choice. Well, he did a fantastic job and came in ahead of my schedule!

The cue is wrapless zebra wood into zebra wood. The veneers are natural-black-natural-black. It's very elegant in its simplicity. I only added ivory notched diamonds up front and an ivory Hoppe ring in the back. I didn't think I needed a lot of inlays to do the talking when the figure in the wood is plenty loud enough. Again, the cue is fantastic.

I've been taking several cues out at a time to test and compare. I'm searching for my player. If it's a never ending quest, I can live with that and enjoy the journey.

Last time out, I had a table near the ladies bathroom. One young gal was waiting her turn. She was admiring my wood and chose the Sly from several that were on the table. I'm not sure she plays at all, but I will say she has great taste! Simple elgance must be in style.

Pictures to follow......

One thing I didn't mention is that I turned Leon loose on the blank. We didn't discuss specs much at all. I prefer a forward balance in my cues, and that's what he delivered. I was content to let the build happen organically. Call me crazy, but it worked.
Once again, a young lady was drawn to this cue. She said to me, "It looks like a zebra."

Simple. Elegant and one of those looks that just makes for a sexy cue. I think I may go a similar route after seeing this for a project I have coming up.
thanks for posting.

Highlight of your thread :grin::grin:

Nicest Davis Conversion i've ever seen and one that i'd be proud to own.

Flattered by your comments and others! And thrilled that my first build turned out so good....
Now if I could only take cue pics like Jive!

Leon is top notch! He just sent me pics of the cue he's finishing up for me last night, and it's looking great! It's going to be the 2nd cue I've had him make for me, and the 6th cue I've had of his.

Congrats on a good choice in cue maker and on such a beautiful cue.
