Can somebody tell me about Paul Daytons cues? I've played with a few, and a Japanese pro whom I have lot's of respect for plays with one, and I've always thought they played well, and have always been impressed with his use of woods.
I remember a cue poll/post here a couple of months ago where somebody called Dayton's cues a joke, and to my suprise, several others whom I consider to be "in the know" agreed. Can somebody tell me about problems they might have had with their cues?
I wasn't sure if asking for opinions on a public forum was a great idea, because I don't want to be starting a thread designed to cut the guy to pieces, but I've just heard lot's of bad without details.
Any first hand experiences would be appreciated.

hi

dayton makes a great hitting cue. he has a shorter, stiffer taper, if you like that. his points have been getting better every year. i had a long talk with him at valley forge this past year. he showed me examples of his work from a couple years ago, to last year, and this years, and he keeps getting better and better. he is very proud of his work and loves building cues.

you hear people talk trash about his cues sometimes because he had a problem with his machines early on. his centers were off and he was making some cues that were straight, but the pins were off. dennis searing came to his shop and helped him straighten everything out, and he's been making awesome cues ever since.

good luck with finding your magic wand.........god knows i'm still lookin(for a searing)

Actually, I already have my magic wand. My Hunter IMHO is the best hitting cue I've ever played with. I just came across a nice Dayton with some nice burl the other day, and was wondering wether or not it was worth my time. The ones that I've seen and played with were all great, it's just that so many on this forum had some pretty rough things to say about his work so I was just wondering if somebody knows something that I don't. Good luck finding your Searing. That's probably the only cue in the world that I'd be willing to give my Hunter up for.

tell every one they don't no crap!! dayton cues play awsome the cues are super nice true hand made cues....

I receive my Paul Dayton just slightly 1.5 months ago. I have no problem whatsoever with Paul's work. His points are all very sharp, of the same length and all his ringwork stitches line up (a,b,c,d,e).

The cue plays really well. I ordered one of Paul's old growth shaft. The first one that he made, he did not particularly like and made a second one, and send me both the shafts, "just to compare how they play".

A fellow Singaporean has two of Paul's cues which I have had the opportunity to try. They are also great cues. I have nothing but respect for the man's work.

I just picked up my Dayton about last weekend and it's great. Took me a few days to get totally used to the hit but I'm getting better with it and am very happy. The cue is beautiful and the finish and workmanship is top notch. Only one issue with it, and it doesn't matter to me, is that one of the four points is 1/8" longer than the other three. All 4 are razor sharp and the block of Amboyna I picked out worked great. He likes to sleave his Ivory joints and butts so that's the way he did mine. I did alot of research before having him make mine and out of it all I only found maybe 4 people that had anything bad to say out of maybe 20-30. I personally don't think you'd go wrong with one of his cues. good luck

i bought one brand new that was warped (the butt).he wanted to charge me $350 to fix it.he is a joke wether his cues play good or not.

After talking to the man face to face for several hours I must say I find that hard to believe. I'm not saying you're wrong but I for one would have to hear the whole story. He adamently stands behind all his work and if it wasn't done correct he considers it "firewood" and will rebuild it from scratch.
