DAZN Potential

I’ve been against DAZN because I just hate the platform. It doesn’t hold streams long enough. There’s not enough content. And it can have some stability issues but that seems better lately.

BUT

6 Matchroom Events per year does justify the annual subscription for me when I consider the normal pool PPV cost per event.

SO

If I’m already in for a penny and in for a pound, why not go all the way? Why can’t we get more pool streaming events to broadcast on it and make it more valuable? I know some streaming providers have their own platform but have a smaller audience. Matchroom just built the audience for us...worldwide.

FOR EXAMPLE

Derby City Classic, Buffalo Pro Classic, International 9-Ball Open, Accu-Stats Classic Matches, etc. I’m sure you guys could think of a few more events.

Ray's subscription is worth purchasing and covers all major US events.

I like Pool Action TV. It is $120 for a year. DAZN is $100 for the year. I’m sure Ray gets more per viewer for his platform but I’m speculating whether he’d make less per viewer and more overall with the addition of an international audience and a crossover audience from boxing, darts and snooker. Maybe it could be a win-win where we consumers only need to pay the one subscription. The only downside (and it’s a big one) is that DAZN doesn’t keep archives.

Agreed that DAZN has its issues with buffering and it's hard to believe the issues remain unaddressed. Still, I think the content is great. I don't watch the boxing, but the pool, snooker, soccer and darts provide a huge number of hours of content. The World Snooker Championship alone will give you about twelve hours of content a day for two weeks. DAZN, at $99 per year, is a great bargain.

Pool will never be darts.
Agreed though you can lure people into new avenues.
I'm a pool player who took up darts, would be nice to take a darter and make them a pool player.

Oh, I agree. But if dart players watch DAZN for darts, maybe 5% of them will check out a pool game or two on DAZN too to see what it’s about.

I know that a hotel was having the pool state and the dart state, one right after the other.
The waitstaff could not wait to get the pool players out of there and said they were the cheapest people.
Hotel loved the dart staff and they tipped well.

Not sure what the point of that was, just that I heard it from various staff people.

I was talking to a bar owner that took his tables out during COVID. He’s debating whether to bring them back. The competitive Men’s league only bought coffees and filled up his parking lot. The women’s league bought dinners and drinks. Kind of similar point.

It's $120 for 6 months roughly. And the site has no real ability to view old content on demand. Or even the current content if you miss the time of the match. I love Ray. He has good commentary, great production, and a reliable stream. But, the package needs a serious upgrade on content access.

Question is, which is cheaper the annual DAZN or the monthly MATCHROOM LIVE?

I'm interested because they both bring the same exact tournaments, but matchroom also brings snooker events. Not sure if thats covered on DAZN, however I am interested also if the commentators are the exact same on both feeds?

Thanks.

Pool players are the cheapest people I know. I knew one guy, J. Kenyon I think his name was. That would bring in his own 500ml disposable bottle of water and get the staff to fill it from the tap throughout the day during tournaments. Can't recall what he did for a living, but he was no means a poor man.

I understand not sucking from the beer tap during a tournament you want to win, but come on.

My local bar/pool room owner states the same. They're having a big dart tourney this weekend and the staff is looking forward to it because they make good money.

Pool players, in general, not so much.
