In professional tennis they DON'T play double elimination, in the NCAA college basketball tournament in March, they too don't play dbl elimination, they put there players and their teams in a due or die situation.

Having allotted time outs betweem quarters in BB and between sets in Tennis is good for the players, the vendors and those that have to use the facilities DUH.

Most always the Best rise to the top, yeah its single elimination, tho with predictable TV time outs and the alike, it isn't broke and it doesn't need Fixin'....Tennis has PROVED that.

Like the 14.1 event at DCC, Jewett is on ta something by bringing back Earls vision of what 21st century 14.1 is all about and it's simple for the public to understand....SIMPLE.

The majors in tennis.... they play 3 out of five sets, in the lesser tiered events they play best 2 out of three.

The US Open 9 ball and the WPA Worlds should be best three out of five, and other comparable events should also consider this format.

Watching Federer and Nadal at the Australian FINAL was Phenomenal.

Randy G and John McChessney pushed Texas Express over thirty yrs ago and it worked Great, it came and went, times now have changed.

To effectively do something for the pros, the Sport, the Public and the Production of TV shows, change is needed. This format has proven itself to be a success....and could create across the board interest in our game.

Tennis is proof that set, match, point, and tiebreakers work, and people will watch it for an extended length of time because of its excitement and its ability for another player to come back from being two sets down and winning.
I truly want our players to have a rich life in many way$, with all that goes with being a great athlete and player like Federer/Nadal/Connors/Billie Jean King/Agassie/Steffie Graf and on an on, they deserve it.

I hate to see Great Players not getting their due.

Why not try and give them and the game something that's needed, for the players, the fans, the sport and the viewers? our sport needs to think outside the box....because change has come and is still coming.

Thx again Bob for bringing up the 2005 Earl Thread.

Sets is the answer, winner breaks the first set, opponent racks. Second set racker breaks and breaker racks. This will naturally speed up play and provide the necessary time/outs that are needed for ALL

tennis format

I've had a tennis type format in my mind for a dozen years.
I think it would bring out a lot for pool.

Would it make the game more exciting?? - I don't know.....

But there is also seeding that goes on in these tournaments that makes single elimination even remotely fair.

Outside any organized league in which players/teams play multiple games/matches in order to establish an objective ranking system as a basis to determine seeding in a tournament, it'll be almost impossible for competitors to be satisfied with subjective seeding in a tournament.

The alternative to seeding is a completely blind draw, but the luck factor of the draw becomes huge. Do we really want to see Orcullo and SVB in the first round of a single elimination tournament?

Try it............Who would of thought Texas Express would work...keep in mind, if your a pro and your seeded or not, and you get knocked out the the first round, ya don't have ta hang around, and pay hotel and the other costs.

That 5 setter Final in the Australian Open tennis, was like watching a ping pong match, it might of been the best match I"ve ever seen with both sides of the court bangin' away at each other.

To see one player racking and the other breaking, the match will move MUCH more quickly.
With small breaks between sets, it helps the audience and the players, each player can regroup for the next set.

It would be so much easier to schedule the entire event.

Some players would enter and not get a room until they got thru the first day, that is enticing when one thinks of cost to each individual. It could easily stimulate two pros to travel together by car, and once thru the 1st round be in the money.

The current flow chart is not exciting enough, and the 14.1 DCC event, who would of thunk, that it's taking off.

Does Snooker use Dbl Elim. I think not.

The full rack 14.1 model is simple for the average mind to comprehend as compared to the other table games, which are too advanced to enjoy for John Q Public.
