I'm considering going to the DCC in January but a friend of mine mentioned that the weather in Elizabeth, IN is terribly that time of year. Snowy, windy and freezing. Can anyone confirm this?
It's FREEZING cold. FREEZING. If you're driving, especially via West Virginia mountains, good luck. I saw 18-wheelers slide off the mountains on the icy roads.
It's worse than riding the Rebel Yell at King's Dominion amusement park.

That's certainly not true every year. I have been to the DCC in shorts before. Weather near Louisville is a roll of the dice that time of year. The average high for Feb is 48ºF and average low is 30ºF.
I don't know, but when I think of January, I can't remember a time when someone could wear shorts outside in that region of the country.
It is traditionally cold in January and February this time of year in that neck of the woods.
That said, if you're comfy in shorts in the wintertime, it could be that the weather temperature may be *unseasonably* warm for that time of year. Generally, though, I think you can count on January being freezing cold, especially if you have to drive through mountains to get there. :embarrassed2:
Once inside the venue, however, I am sure it is warm and comfortable.
Last time I was there (several years ago) they had a major ice storm that left thousands of homes and businesses in the area without power. Seems like they had several inches of snow on the roads at the same time. That would probably be a worst case scenario, however, and not the typical January.

Well the numbers don't lie... average high of 48º should not scare anyone off. I live 2.5 hours from the venue so I think I understand the waether patterns here pretty well. I have been to all but the first couple DCCs and weather has never stopped me from going one time.
I just don't want people to be scared off because there is a *chance* that it may be cold and possibly snowing. But there is an equal chance it will be in the 50-60ºF.
