DCC - AZB room - ??Next Year?? - ??Special Event??

I personally enjoyed the AZB room at the DCC enough that I would like to do it again next year (though there will need to be some minor changes/improvements). If there isn't enough interest here, I will do it myself and invite all my friends (and there are a bunch of new ones from the AZB room this year:) ).

I am hoping we can get 2 tables in the same room. One for play as we did this year; one for drop-ins, pro challenges, tournament warm-up, and "winner stays" low stakes challenge table. There will have to be someone in charge that can deal with the tournament and hotel management; and must be responsible for dispute resolution in the room (I think Timberly would be great - I'll do it if no one else is foolish enough to volunteer). The room WILL be non-smoking (at hotel's insistence).

In speaking with Greg Sullivan and Mark Griffin they would VERY much like us to sponsor a mini-tournament or "special event." It is possible that they may be more liberal in allowing us sponsorship, so financially it may be feasible. We have spoken of sponsoring a Schmidt-Pagulayan 14.1 re-match or a rotation match of Efren vs. a top player (Pat has NO rotation matches in his catalog). I have spoken to Pat Fleming and he is willing to tape the match; Efren is willing to compete for whatever prize money we raise (if we choose the rotation match) - he just likes to play pool. John Schmidt thinks it might take more money than we can raise to get a Schmidt-Pagulayan re-match.

In any case, by doing this; we would be promoting the sport, helping Greg and Mark make the DCC even more of a spectacular event, and in part repaying them for allowing us to be part of the "scene". We could definitely set aside an "all-AZB section" at the television table and all be part of the history of the game, recorded on DVD for posterity. We could have a little post-match mixer with the pro's in the AZB room. We could even help pick Efren's opponent (who can beat him at rotation???).

It MIGHT not cost us much if any extra (we may get a better deal on the tables and the room as a result), and we can raffle off the AZB banner to help defray our costs. I think if we got minimum 70 and maximum 100 members to donate $25 - $50 we could do it. Do we want to promote or just sit back and leech????

Do we want to limit players to 100? We had about 70 players this year for one table.

Do we want to help Greg & Mark by promoting an event?

If I get 50 people to commit now, we will proceed. I will need to know in the next month or two to make sure we get commitments from all the interested parties.

WBM, if you can put up with me again, I'd love to be a part of the next AZ Room group. Two tables limited to 100 people would be fine I think... $20 x 100 = $2000. I don't recall there being any more than 10 people waiting on the table this year though...

Let me know how I may be of assistance ,I will anything I can to help make the next one as blistering a success as this years event was, To not be a part of it again would really suck , I plan on being there next year so I can meet the friends I met and made this year once again .....

Sponsorship will be of vital importance to accomplish all we need/want to do, We just dont
have the funds to do it all ...and it will progress. Everything you have suggested so far sounds like a winner to me, this shouldnt be any different. If Mark and Gregg are amenable to helping us ,I think that the least we can do is help them ,right ?? Isnt that what we are all here about ,promoting the game in all its forms ??I see it as also helping the overall theme and scheme of things at the derby ...

I for one say Hell Yeah !!

Ratchet - The DCC still plays like a dream , I just hope it never fades for me...

Here is a thought on the $$ end. This year being the first year LOTS of people paid and never picked up their nametag. So there were a bunch of people not in attendance that were financing our fun (thanks). I’m not sure that philanthropy could be expected next year. I think the estimated minimum donation should reflect the real cost for the people that actually used the room. I would guess that number would be closer to $50 - 75, which is still DIRT CHEAP!!

just my two cents

I dont know about after I left but while I was there it usually was more than what you would find anywhere else like 5 or 6 people deep .

I'm in for $50.00 next year at the DCC. I'll also donate several cases of soft drinks if needed. Maybe someone could bring a mid sized refrigerator. Just a thought.

More than likely, I will only be able to attend for 2 days towards the end of the tournament.

Count me in. I'm glad to be part of this idea. It will be a great time.
I think that when others become aware of this, they mat also want to contribute. The members of CCB, of which many of us also belong could also be a part of the room.

This sounds too good to pass up, I'm in. I'd be willing to kick in for whatever and help out to make this happen.

Eric >DCC, I'm overdue...

It took all I had

It took all I had just to get there and back let alone stay as long as I got to. I am on a fixed income and spread myself thinner than I should have and am allready regretting it but at least I got to be part of it.
after all the good remarks about this one I think there will be no shortage of people at 20 each or more if they want to "donate" more . I spent at least 20 or 30 just buying drinks for our guests alone , I dont regret it it was fun to say
"Ms. Lee, can I offer you something" ...lolo and see her eyes sparkle in person
made it worth every penny . I also suspect membership here to go up just because of the AZ room @ the DCC and that may need to be mulled over as to how late they join or how many posts make eligibility possible ,IMO this thing is gonna get BIG real big .

Ratchet - Then again I could be wrong ..???

I'm in.
I did not go this year but contributed and am planning on attending the 07 version.

Can you elaborate a little on your JS comment? Who thinks there would not be enough money and how much did he think?

I would love to see the 14.1 event and think Alex and John would be great.
I think it would be nice to try and set up something with some of the
good/Pros that visit AZ. Shawn Putnam, Hillbilly and Danny Harriman come to mind.
An Efren/Putnam 1pocket match would be good or a Harriman/John S 14.1 match.

Are the above matchups the "mini tournaments" you mentioned?

I also would suggest setting up some types of fund raisers for this if having a room and promoting pool is going to be a yearly event for the
group. Maybe Tshirts or an auction.

I also would like to see the auction for the doubles return. In advance if we could lineup Efren and another top player I believe more chances could be sold. Theres more time to sell them this year. Partcipants could be announced before the derby.

Right now its early and ideas are just being tossed around but maybe we
could set a date for an official DCC 07 update thread. Maybe once a month from now until then. I am sure there will be updates and talk about
options between now and then.

There was talk of sponsorship and I would vote to keep it AZ groupies if possible. I would have no problem for some of the cuemakers that
are regulars to be allowed a banner or space but would love to see it
an average joe AZer event.
Maybe we could get the cuemakers we have to make a cue and we could auction them off. Not sure how much the makers would like for their
work but something fair could probably be worked out.
There are quite a few good cuemakers on here that are very regular visitors. It would be nice to help promote their work.

The AZers that attended this year would know more about what was needed and what could be a problem. Would the hotel care if we sponsored a social in the rooms with food and beverages??

With a year and with me attending I can up my contribution to $100. Sally Strothers will have to find her 50cents a day from somebody else :D

Looking forward to the event and hearing others ideas.

Of course, I am in again.

Since $50 may be a little tough for some, I am willing to go $100 to help subsidize.

Ratchet,

What, pray tell, did you offer Ms. Lee????????????? :D

I have never been to DCC. Going will take some planning for me, but I really want to go. I will see if I can do it. If I can paying anywhere in the 100 vicinity for access to the room is a no-brainer. I will see.

Is it OK if you are a lousy player? I fully intend to shamelessly go two and out in the banks if I go.

I'm in for sure. $50 or $100 works for me. I don't mind helping out. Just let me know what I can do for you. I will probably play in all the events, but don't expect to be much of a stayer. Thanks. Any possibility on blocking a section of room for AZB?

I will be traveling with my lovely woman (will stay for a portion of this), who does not play. We can chip in on helping. She's not clueless about pool, she just doesn't play all that much.

I'm a lousy player and I was there. ;)

WBM, I'm in for whatever dollar amount will be needed when the time comes. I will also be willing to be the go to person for both members and mgt/Greg/Mark. It only makes sense because I'll be there the whole time, I can be found easily, and I know most members and Greg & Mark. Oh yeah, I'm also the "forum police"... that should settle it. :D :D

I'm game for most anything, just keep me/us posted. I urge any & all to post your ideas through out the yr as they come to you. We've got a lot more time to do this right and have even better results.

I would like to just keep it the az-op room though. CCB has their own CCB members only tourney at the open and I think that's great. I even went to visit this yr while the tourney was going on. I don't see anything wrong with us having our own thing at Derby like they do at the Open. It shouldn't make too much of a difference anyway because most people there post here anyway. :)
