DCC Bits and Pieces

Dafuq I thought someone hacked my account and wrote this lol...

Its a casino, and a VERY greedy one. Thats always been the case and always will be. Greg is making a shit ton off the tournament and thats probably why they let another 100 in the banks. Everything is overpriced and any monies that leave pockets are suppose to go to the house, not other individuals (according to them). For anyone that thinks theyre getting a deal on a room with the DCC rate theyre dead wrong, the prices of the rooms are cheaper throughout the year. They jack the price up for the DCC rate then rape everyone else who doesnt call ahead and reserve one at the aforementioned increased rate. They wanted to charge me $289 from 1:00 am until checkout time at 10:00 am, but hey...the casino and Greg is just looking to help out the pool player. It is definitely not catered towards the pool player anymore, but the pool enthusiast who has plenty of jelly. It is a stone cold fact they make more in these 10 days than any other time during the year, on rooms, food and in the casino. Its a damn ghost town the week before and after the DCC lol.

To sum up, the Derby City Classic is a thing of the past...the Derby City Con is the way of the future :D

100% correct sir its a money pit. Glad i enjoyed it in hey day at the old venue from 02-08 years i was there. When it moved in 09 i seen where it was headed so chose to never return.

100%-who else would fill that shithole in January beside us cultists?? I dont mind anyone making a living but it is more like gouging going on now. The old location had maybe 5-8 hotels in walking distance-thus competition-No need even for a rental car.
At this garbage dump-They are the only game in town and they take full advantage. I use to go every year including the first year at The Horseshit Barn- First and last time!

Ya,ll must not ever go to other casinos. They are the same as every harrahs property i,ve ever visited.of course they want your(and my) money. But its still all the best players in the world,24/7, and every year i go,as soon as you get to the action room everyone is talking about security and the casino cracking down on gambling...i have NEVER had a word said to me or anyone i know(and i promise you we send it in for the 4-5 days we go every year. The food is always ridiculously priced at every casino i,ve ever been to. You have to expect that, they know where there bread is buttered, they will never try to REALLY stop the gambling(they know that would be the end of the derby) they just put up a small front but know exactly what they are hosting.don,t be naiive, just act like you,ve got some sense when security walks through and then do what you came to so. WAS IT BETTER at executive west? Heck yea...because all the money stayed in the building and didn,t go to the boat...BUT IT IS STILL THE BEST POOL ToURNAMENT IN the WORLD. Put it on the light!!!

I've heard that it's not allowed according to their gambling license. If true, it's certainly not worth losing that.

It's a gaming license thing.

They could lose their license if IN inspectors find they have been sleeping gambling on their premises outside of the casino.

There was a guy who won 6 Three cushion world championships with a prosthetic leg.
Robert L. Cannefax was his name, about 1917 to 1923 I believe.
He had a booklet called the Cannefax Charts, that showed the tracks on a billiard table.

He also had the habit of -- when he missed a shot -- pulling out a knife and stabbing himself repeatedly in the leg... the prosthetic one of course, but I sure it was nonetheless disconcerting to his opponent and spectators.

I wonder what would happen if the organizers said to the casino- Either lighten up on our players or we will take this event elsewhere and good luck filling up this shithole in the middle of nowhere in January with a blizzard, ice storm, or sub 20 degree weather guaranteed every year.

ah.... no place else to go big enough, with enough rooms, food, and 24 hour security in a multi-state area.

It seems like a state like Louisiana would be a much better fit for an event like derby with their layed back laws on gambling. Diamond is probably locked in for x amount of years through a contract and could face some financial repercussions if they just picked up and moved the event.

Louisiana is loose as a goose when it comes to all the good but borderline indulgences we all seem to like :-)

There is a distinction to be made between what GS has control over and how the hotel/casino runs it's bizaness.

It's easy to think he has massive sway over that part of the event but it is not so.

So the only other updates I have at this point are that there are a sheet-at load of people there now and they have still not released the 14.1 Challenge tables.

I feel sad for the guys that invest so much time, effort and money into that wonderful part of the Derby. I have to wonder, if they are not going to cut off entries and they cannot increase the number of tables, whether this spells the end for certain facets (Action Room anybody?) of the Derby.

WTF-That whole area is a dead zone?-The Horseshoe is the most glorious destination around? Nothing in Cicinatti, Nashville? St Louis?Indianapolis? Yikes!

If there is that many people that it's causing issues, then I'm afraid they should start limiting entries and having a cut off date for payments.

Perhaps start taking online payments in October or November, and limiting each event to 300 players.

GS has personally told me that, some time ago, he checked it out. Nada.

Besides, folks would just find a reason to be-atch about whatever new venue he found. The EW was perfect but is gone. I am thankful I had the opportunity to go and see it all several times. In future years people will probably talk about the Horseshoe in the same way, particularly if he moves it into a convention hall like the SBE and people have to fend for themselves for room and board.

Here in the D.C. Area, there are lots of 'sports complex' buildings that could accommodate such an event. Most of them have food service, ample parking and hotels all around.

There must be similar elsewhere? They host indoor soccer leagues, gymnastics events, track meets, etc...

If you find a place let GS know.

Right about now, with record entries and a humungi load of spectators, I'd say he's doin' just fine.

Executive West is now a CrownePlaza. They completely remodled the EW and its pretty damn nice now. The Executive East across the street is the one they tore down.

I was in the EW not too long after the DCC left -- there's no room for all the tables now.
