dcc coverage sucks

is it me or is there a lack of coverage of the dcc? where are the stats and schedules and payouts? i'm sure the logistics of the tournament itself are horrendous and would be considerably worse to try to put out some info, but it sure would be nice to be able to follow the progress of the tournament. dont get me wrong, i appreciate tar and accustats and the websites, but do i have to wait for the publications to do the actual reporting of the event? if i missed the location of any site that can give me some info, someone please list it.
You could always go there and then maybe it wouldn't suck so much.

Im here and i have a hard time figuring out what's going on.

But at least Im basking in the beautiful sunshine and Southern climate of greater Louisville. Every day after my swim i sit on the back lawn of the Hotel and enjoy a Mint Julep. Louisville never fails to deliver beautiful balmy weather during the DCC.

As far as tournament matches go, dcctickets.com would normally be the source for information. Due to inclement weather here in Louisville, however, many homes and businesses have been without power at times, and it the weather appears to be affecting certain forms of communication as well; the dcc websites claims that is the reason for the lack of tournament updates.

I don't know how much snow fell here, but the roads have been treacherous at times, and there seems to be a shortage of snow plows in this area, as most of the city streets are still in pretty bad shape. In addition to the snow, the areas around the river (and the casino) got a thicker coating of ice, which brought down many trees and power lines. I have not heard what kind of progress the utility companies are making, but when we were going to breakfast yesterday morning, we saw an elderly gentleman being evacuated from his home due to the lack of electricity/heat, so I would assume there are still many without power.

I realize not everyone can make it to the DCC, but firsthand is truly the only way to experience it. The new location has 40 tables spread all over two floors, some of which are in small rooms that contain only 3 tables, then there's the action room. It would probably take a reporting staff of 10 to 20 people to provide anything close to complete coverage. That type of reporting unfortunately isn't happening here yet, so the only way to really know what's going on at the Derby is to just be here.

Sounds awesome, {except for the inch of ice covering evry thing} simply wonderful. Every year I have gone to Louisville for the DCC, it has been just beautiful weather outside. HA HA!!!! Usually rainy and cold. This year, I guess it got a little too cold. Everyone have a safe trip home.

No it's not you, I've also noticed the poor coverage. Last year I could come to AZB and get updated results very quickly but this year...
You can't blame AZB though, I think the Horseshoe Casino is responsible for the poor coverage. I hope it gets rectified next year because this is by far the best event of the year. IMO

Don't feel too bad, IUTBR. I was at the tournament both as a player and spectator, and I could never find out what the standings were at any given time.

They had a computer page on a large monitor, scrolling down through all the players. But it just listed whether they had one or no buybacks available. And the results were all mixed in between the banks and 1P.

The only paper posting of any event tournament standings was Jay Helfert's display of the leader board in the Fatboy challenge.

Doc
Doc that's shameful! How are we supposed to clock the players if we can't see the matchups or results?

Satman, thanks for the update. Guess Vaughn can play some ... and folks aren't so scared of Efren anymore, even in 1-hole. Only about 3 years ago, he might have been at his peak in 1-pocket, eh?

How in the world is the Horseshoe Casino accountable for the reporting
of matches. That falls on the good folks that run the tourney, there should be press releases daily saying who and what is happening in the
events.

This has nothing to do with the Horseshoe, TAR or anyone else, it falls
on the shoulders of the people running the event.

You are totally right.

We at AZ are all pool fanatics. Yet there is coverage from only 5 days ago on the DCC.

I paid for both TAR and Accustats streaming coverage. The TAR was what was to be expected, meaning hit or miss action, but non-stop. The Efren match was epic.

The Accustats half the day there are not even any matches.

Both companies need to do a better job updating their websites. Its hard to follow their links, and know where to go to either buy a stream, or return to access your content.

I know all the promoters, from both TAR and Accustats are players at heart, and like to be involved in the action. However, they are now running a business, and need to keep the business aspect professional. That includes proper communication, via well laid out websites, updated websites, press releases, etc.

There are no charts anywhere for us fans to follow that are even remotely recent.

In the live TAR chat, if you ask about the tournament, the standard response is "we have nothing to do with it". I understand this, but damn, its like we can't get information about anything, from ANYONE.

I too appreciate the efforts of everyone, but they are frankly not enough.

We need a dedicated reporter to be there, with computer, and with web knowledge to keep all of us diehard fans updated.

If its a money thing, maybe if we chip in a few bucks, we can pay for a reporter to be there for future events.

Finally just want to add, I'm offering constructive criticism for both TAR, Accustats, and AZ staff. Before anyone goes off on me, I do pay for the streams. And what I said above is the truth about the situations I have observed on a regular basis over the past several years. All 3 companies need to improve.

Very well put. I agree. I would love to see TAR succeed. I was actually trying to buy the PPV today, and it seemed difficult to really get any concept of what I was buying. There is essentially no promotion of the product. A REALLY good idea would be to have a constant banner on the main page of the site that says who is playing currently on the free feed and more importantly on the PPV feed. It would be a nice touch to add in what the race/bet/spot etc. is. This generates INTEREST, which is the principle thing that makes people want to part with their money. Perhaps an "upcoming" notice would help too.

I will probably still buy the PPV, but it sure would be easier to justify if I knew what to expect. I mean, even if I see that in 5 minutes some match is about to happen, that would be enough. Random clips in a chat window is not any real info, in part because you don't know who is even talking, whether they are reporting, hoping, imagining, speculating, etc.

I will say however that the feed quality looks somewhat better than last year, when it is up.

I haven't read ahead in the thread yet to see if you got bashed!

P.S. It's 20 degrees outside and there's a foot of snow on the ground. I've been outside once in the past week, and almost fell down twice on the black ice in the parking lot. Other than that, just like Southern Cal. :)

God forbid, they schedule it in spring or fall !

Jay, I've told you a billion times never to exaggerate. I took a ruler out to measure the actual snow depth.... could not get through the 1" layer of ice on top of the snow. (forgot my ice axe)
But then, where would the challenge be if they held it in one of the other nine mos. of the year when it is beautiful in Kentucky ??????

Dick

PS. Tues.AM, it was 18 degrees with a wind chill of 8 or 9. Airport shut down, etc. Coming from AZ or CA thats only a 60 degree swing....brrrrrr !
Even the natives were biatching.

South Beach Classic should be the venue every year

here look:

and all the other great Miami things in addition to great weather, wow can you imagine???

this is the worst winter weather I have ever seen in my life(dead serious) i been to the snow, and seen it snow 5" in Vegas this year(first time for that too), hell the weather in Munich is better than this. I'm a Ca boy, tropical, a reptile. I dont understand cold.

But the DCC was one hell of event!!! no matter the weather

All of you who are offering to chip in for a reporter, see us next year. We tried to sell sponsorship of the DCC to a zillion different sponsors for the price of just covering our gas, hotel and food. No profit. No one even hesitated before saying no. Think times aren't tough in pool? That is one very cheap sponsorship to be unable to sell!

You didn't offer it to AZ.

In the past we have had people willing to chip in to buy Jennie Malloy a laptop and a year's worth of wireless/cellphone internet service to offset the costs of the wonderful reporting she did.

At AZ we have sent players to the US Open.

Don't forget that you have a full house of fans right here. You don't have to go to the industry, go to the people.

All we want is someone who will take requests and report on the things we want to know about and put it RIGHT HERE where we are.

I was there earlier this month - wish I had more time to take it all in. One of a kind place is an understatement. My god, all the "pretty people", the beaches, hotels, awesome clubs ("floating" sofa club - too cool!). BUT, guard your stuff!

It would get my vote!

I had to post this because Jeanette doesn't get the respect she deserves. She has to be the all time best money player among the women. Vivian is second, and there is no close third.

Jeanette will get down and play for some serious cheese. And by the way, she plays ALL games good. Not too many men would like playing an All Around with her, featuring 9-Ball, One Pocket, Banks, 14.1 and Three Cushions. Yes, she can play all these games at a high level.

Jeanette is followed everywhere she goes around here, simply because she is the most high profile pool player in the world. I notice things that others may miss. Number one, she is a great mom! She takes time, even at a event like this, to spend quality time with her delightful daughter Cheyenne. I observed her working with Cheyenne in her pre-school workbook right in the TV arena. They were so cute together. Cheyenne is a confident little kid herself, sitting in a room full of pool players while her mom does her thing. The whole pool world babysits Cheyenne.

And Jeanette will take time for all her fans, stopping to chat, take photos and even play a few games with them. I noticed her spending quite a bit of time shooting with one young boy the other night, much to his delight and his parents as well. Jeanette appears to enjoy this as much as they do. She doesn't have to do this, as her time is very valuable. Like I said I notice these things, and I admire her for it.

But best of all, Jeanette Lee is not all talk. She will get up and play! And play she did the last two nights, with a young hustler from Atlanta named Terry. Jeanette gave up the seven ball with some serious money on the line. Very serious! They played races to twenty, win by two. Jeanette won both nights, by wide margins. Jeff Beckley broke for her the first night, and they alternated breaks on the second night (that was the adjustment).

I love watching her play. She can get intense, and will definitely take charge of a match. No one initmidates her. IMO she plays better for the cash, than she does in tournaments.

One thing im sure many do not know, Jeanette went to the Bronx High School of Science which pretty much is 100% geniuses. Check it out.
