Once again this great event is happening at Derby City on Jan. 22-24. As in past years it will be played in the AZ Room. If you would like to make a contribution to the prize fund, contact me here or at jayhelfert@yahoo.com. We have $1,250 in added money already. Thanks!

We just got a great offer of additional sponsorship. Looks like we are already over $2,000 in added money for this event!

A big thank you to Larry Giles and his company, American Key Recovery Service. They have just pledged an additional $1,000 in prize money for the One Pocket Challenge.
SJM has also added $100 to the prize fund. Thank you Stu! We now have a total of $2,350 in added money. The pot is growing. This year the players will get four turns (not three) for $100.

Jay, even though I won't go this year I'll paypal you the same as I donated last year, $ 50.

Plus, if Efren wants to play, as his one-pocket-challenge-backer I will pay his entryfee again. Just tell him I said so, and make him play :)

EDIT: Money paypal'ed. Let me know if Efren accept my offer of being backer in 2011 too :)

Hey, hey, HEY!.

Did you miss my signature dude?

What is the one pocket challenge?
Mini-Tourney?

Yes, the players have five turns to break the balls wide open and run as many as they can in one pocket. The total ball count at the end of the five turns is their score. This year it will cost them $50 for two chances (five turns each) or $100 for four chances.

By the way, any player who breaks Gabe Owen's record of 60 will receive a $1,000 bonus! $500 bonus if you tie the record.

Some of the most fun I had at the Derby was watching the pros try to do this challenge. It was cool to see them rooting for eachother to do good and giving eachother tips on how to succeed. This challenge should be recorded so everyone gets a chance to see it.

I agree, big HIGHLIGHT of the Derby for me. Hearing Schmidt talk about just how good Corey is, is just funny to me. And anytime you can watch Efren having a fun time, it makes you smile too. Can't wait to check it out once again.

This year's One Pocket Challenge added money sponsors:

Greg Sullivan $1,000
Tigers Eye Partners $1,000
Steve Booth $100
Jay Helfert $100
Stu Mattana $100
Roy Steffensen $50

Total added money currently is $2,350! This year each player can take two turns for $50 or four turns for a $100. The top four scores will split ALL prize money as follows; 40% for the highest score, 30% for second, 20% for third and 10% for fourth. There is nothing taken out of the entries, it all goes into the purse.

The first player who ties Gabe Owen's high run of 60 will receive a $500 bonus from me. The first player who scores higher than 60 will be paid a $1,000 bonus!

P.S. We are accepting additional sponsorship!

My math skills are not the greatest... but would you not want to offer 5 (or maybe 6) tries for $100, vs 2 for $50/ 4 for $100?

It's a GREAT job you are doing with this challenge Jay! One of my best memories from the DCC was when Darren was shooting and Efren walked in, and Darren immidiately quit because he wanted to see Efren perform. And what a performance it was :)

The top players really do love the challenge, and it shows when they are playing it. They all smile, laugh and are having great fun, entertaining us spectators and talking while shooting. It's a blast, and I hope more people will step up and add money so Jay will stay busy all day with top players trying to win this!!!

Lou, it just takes too long for each attempt. Offering two tries for $50 will be a bargain for some players who have less of a chance. The good players will all take the four try offer anyway. Four tries can tie up the table for easily an hour or more. I want everyone to have a chance over the course of the three days.

P.S. Players who opt for four tries do not have to take them all at the same time. They can take two and come back later for the other two. That way if they have a match they can leave. I want the good players to buy in for $100 and not $50. This will help build the purse.
