I was all ready to make the trip out to Kentucky but a single elimination race to 7 winner breaks is absurd IMO for the 9 ball event. I don't think I want to go anymore.

Like 5ballcharlie said, you do have a buyback option (more money you must lay out). Remember though, that there will be maybe 500 or 600 entrants; the majority of whom are amateur players. It is not unusual for an amateur to go 5 or 6 rounds into the tournament (random re-draw after each round).
In addition, your entry fee gives you a spectator's ticket for the entire week.
