DCC Triple Crown BANKS

I was just wondering if there should be an "official" name for when a player wins one of the three disciplines (9 Ball Bank, ONe Pocket & 9 Ball) three years in a row.

Winning one of these disciplines is incredibly difficult. Winning two or more of the disciplines in one tournament is even more difficult. However, to win even one discipline three years in a row has to be a MAJOR HURDLE.

I was just wondering if anyone knew if ANY player has ever won the same discipline three years in a row. I would have to imagine that Efren might have had a chance to do it in the one pocket division.

I also wondered if a player were to win the same discipline three consecutive years, he certainly should be entitled to a "Title" and if so what would that title name be. I've suggested on title above and look forward to hearing some other suggestions as well.

Maybe some of the historians of the Derby City Classic can chime in about the records for past years.

Derby City Classic Triple Crown 9 Ball Bank Pool Champion is another.... getting kind of long though (or does that matter).

Here's wishing a really nice guy the best in his quest to three-peat at banks this year.

Maybe a little trophy with three crystal cue balls with the dates and discipline engraved on them would be kind of cool. Just thinking.....

Good luck John Brumback.

Has any DCC player ever won any discipline three years in a row?

A recognition program is a great idea. Maybe the winner can host some type of challenge event, this way instead of just giving him an extra cash payout he gets to play some great pool too.

yea but I don't believe anyone has ever won all three events.....the most is two i believe...........

I guess winning all three events should be considered a "genuine" Triple Crown.

Winning one particular discipline three times in a row is a definite feather in your cap but I don't know if that caps winning all three events.

That would be some kind of player to win all three disciplines.

You are correct. Efren has never won the banks and Shannon Daulton has never won the one pocket. Jose Parica and Nick Varner have never won the 9 ball. Each one is missing one division.

There are a few who have won the same discipline more than once:

Efren - one pocket 5 times (4 in a row) and 9 ball twice (also runner up in banks twice)

Shannon - 9 ball twice

Ralf Souqet - 9 ball three times

Larry Price - banks twice

Jason Miller - banks twice

John Brumback - banks twice (back to back, current reigning champ)

Interesting to me in twelve years three guys have won seven of the 9 ball titles and three guys have won six of the bank titles. Despite fields of close to 400, these few guys have dominated in their respective field.

Efren is of course a phenom of a human. He has won nearly half of the one pocket titles, and 20% of the total titles (7/36), of course not including the all arounds.

One of your statistics really sticks out at me and that is that Shannon has not won even one of the one pocket titles at DCC. I know he is busy with his tour and all but he is still a champion one pocket player who has won his share of major one pocket tournaments and matches.

So NO ONE has ever won the three disciplines in one year and NO ONE has won each of the three disciplines in all the years the Derby City Classic has been going on. WOW! I never would have thought that...... I figured that surely at least one person might have won a title in each discipline.

Thanks!!!!!

This is especially difficult due to the short race formats necessary to accommodate this many players. If the races were longer, I can see the cream rising to the top much easier, but with the short races, players can afford to make no mistakes. I'd love to see Johnny 3peat and I always have to pull for Efren in the one pocket! I'm looking forward to another exciting year at the Derby. Haven't missed one yet and until they shovel the dirt on me I don't plan to start!
