As many of you here are much aware, there were MANY deadly tornadoes throughout KY, IN, and AL this weekend. It seems as though KY and IN sustained most of the damage leaving many searching for family members, losing their homes, as well as loved ones.
One of the deadliest tornadoes ravaged the small town of West Liberty just minutes from my house. While our home and vehicles were not protected from damage, this weekend I have found myself reflecting and knowing how fortunate and blessed my family has been. Unfortunately, many were not so lucky as the death toll continues to rise. The destruction is mind-boggling as this sort of weather rarely happens in the mountains. However, this is the second tornado to wreak havoc on West Liberty in less than 3 days. The first EF-2 came on Wednesday and an EF-3 on Friday. Again, this type of weather just does not happen here in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky.
So, if you have anything to give from non-perishable food items to blankets and money, please send them to the American Red Cross to aid the relief efforts. I know this economy is tough on everyone but any donation will help. While your efforts to donate may not directly impact the relief efforts from this weekend's deadly tornado outbreak, remember to donate when you can and what you can as there is always someone in need. For those who have weathered this sort of storm before, my heart goes out to you and admire your strength and your resolve. No doubt faith was a common virtue! I have a new found respect for those who endured during Hurricane Katrina and other life changing disasters!
I am one of those people who never thought this type of disaster could/would happen so close to my home but I have found myself staring down what seems like Tornado Alley. Very humbling to see how we stack up against mother nature. As for me and mine, we are doing just fine and insurance will replace what we have lost. May GOD bless you all!!!!

ps...and so this is pool related there was a pool room on Main St. called "McKenzie's" that was completely destroyed! Had the best fish sandwiches ever...
