Deals too good to be true...

I paid $700 for one of his 1/1 that I could buy for about $375 now
so I didn't get burned like some who had paid $1500 or more.
That being said it looks nice and hits as well as anything I have or
better. ( Jackson, Coker, Espiritu, Jacoby, Dominiak, Meucci, Predator,
Pechauer, Joss, McDermott, etc.) So, I'm pleased with it. I also
have a Speedster I paid $250 for. Not as nice but a good barbox
8 ball stick. Believe, I hear what you guys are saying but until I
can afford a Schick or Bender or even a Capone, I'm glad I've
got my DP.

Dale did some unique burl cues for awhile, and those were really nice looking. I had a maple burl cue that was stunning. I really liked that cue. It was my player for awhile before I upgraded. I bought it on e-bay for $700 and I sold it for $600. I sold it because I could see the prices were falling and it would never be collectible.

I think he's trapped himself at cheap prices. He should just scrap the " 1 of 1" gimmick and start a production cue line to compete with Schon, complete with dealers. Then he himself can work on fancier, sharper cues that bring his name back up there. He's got all the ability - I understand that he trained Keith Josey.

Im one of them too.....

All -

I had Dale Perry do a titlist conversion for me several years ago. I too, had seen his designs and liked them. I had the chance to speak to him, at the DCC and while there I told him I would like for him to build me a cue.

He built it to my specs, and I supplied him the oak titlist. My usual, (2) shafts, ivory joints, ferrells and hoppe ring. He also did some ivory, purpleheart and melachite inlay above the ivory hoppe ring. Overall, I was pleased with the cue. I used a predator shaft, (all uni-lock) and used the cue for at least a year as my "playing" cue.

I have several more pricely cues, but it served me well. I did notice that some people mentioned that with my higher end cues on hand, why would I play with the DP.

Frankly, I didnt have a ton in it. It certainly played okay or I wouldnt have played with it. The (2) orginal shafts are as new. But even on this cue, I'm sure its worth much less. However, I wasnt surprised to see Dale go this way.

The DP titlist cue I have I will probably keep. But as mentioned above, I really dont have a choice.

If anyone is friends with Dale, I would think this might make an interest read. Maybe I will call him.

Regards
Ken

Check this out:

DP Store

$400 gets you a nice custom cue with two shafts, radial pin. It's unbelievable - and there are all kinds of cues listed. For a starter custom, I don't see how these can be beat.

Chris

Does he really sell them for that price? Why are the bidders id's always private? Its seems suspicious to me.

I also have a DP that the joint has come loose on. i paid 400 for it. it is just a plain jane with some malacite ring work. also when the cue is together the shaft ring is noticably smaller than the joint collar on the butt so there is a lip there. I can't sell it for 200. i have had it on the market for 2 weeks locally and no bites......................................................mike

Dave,

Are you still in Japan?

How strong is the old cue/ custom cue market right now?

What is hot right now?

I would like to have a contact in Japan.

Chris
As far as I'm concerned, the high end cues market is dead here in Japan. The prices that they sell for here are still up to three times what they're worth, but that's only if you can sell it. For me to keep cues in stock with the risk of not selling the cue for possibly three years is too much of a risk for a small operation like me who doesn't have the climate controlled storage facilities needed for higher end cues. Cues that are still good sellers here will always be Cogs, JW, Bender, Capone, and Tad. Although I can sell most of these makers for almost criminal profits, I still run the risk of sitting on a cue for years before I find a buyer. Right now, I only operate as a cue finder for guys looking for a cue that can't speak the English to negotiate on their own with the dealer/collector/maker. My clients come to me with a particular price in mind, and I hit up all the places I know and let him/her select the cue. That way, all cues that I ship to Japan already have a buyer in position. It's not enough to pay the bills, but it's my own way of protesting the crazy prices of cues here in Japan.

Yes, he does, and he's really fast in shipping them out.

Oh yes - no question he sells them for that starting price if there is only one bid.

I am sure he keeps the ID private for several reasons, not the least of which is that you cannot look at what a particular cue sold for, which then tends to "set the price" if it went too low.
