I'd like to congratulate you folks on getting together a group and trying to organize mens professional pool because its sorely lacking and has been for some time. While the organization itself is a great idea and is sorely needed, there is a way to go about it that will gain you the support you deserve.

I highly doubt that the majority of folks on AZ or anywhere in the world would criticize your efforts if the execution of it was less abrasive for lack of a better word. I'm certainly not here to beat you up..........I believe in your cause as do the majority here in my opinion and I wish you the best of luck in changing things but, like someone else has said, you will get more with honey than vinegar.

As many have voiced, having multiple members use the one account here is somewhat troublesome and only because there is no control and no consistent message being sent out to the public and the public is who can help you win your battle to change the industry. If any posts come off as angry or self entitled, the public will react unkindly. If all posts are written with professionalism and without a hint of self entitlement, the entire pool loving public would support your efforts. Sometimes messages can be misread and this is one of the main reasons there should be one person in charge of approving public messages. They could help make your organization great or can destroy it before it begins.

Its often difficult to want to compromise with someone when you believe you are wronged in so many ways but, in this case, although pool players may not always be treated fairly, its best to take smaller steps to create change rather than the last resort step of boycotting a long running and very loved event. When the word boycott is used, it automatically blinds people to the real issue and they feel attacked and betrayed almost. This of course has the opposite effect on negotiations and rather than gaining leverage, often times respect and market share is lost.

I hope that the folks posting here for the ABP realize that the public that loves and supports pool may not always be the best players but they are the ones that can make a difference. The ABPs only real leverage can come from the support of the fans and in order to gain that support, the fans must feel appreciated and must feel a connection with the players. Talking down to anyone will not only make the organization look bad, it can destroy the support from the fans that is the leverage the ABP needs to effect change in the industry.

Again, I congratulate you folks on organizing the ABP but I hope that with all of the uproar over the boycott and the posts made by anonymous ABP members that you've already learned that some things must change to avoid further damage to your organization.

In closing, I hope you also consider having a business person with a PR background work in the area of press releases and public communication. This can only better your position. Most people dont realize the importance of how things are said and the timing of them.....it takes someone with experience to communicate in a way that cannot hurt your organization and that gets a message out without potentially offending the masses. Its so important and is necessary in order for the ABP to achieve its goals. Players understand player issues which is very important for which areas you work on but, let the professional business folks handle the PR and other business related issues. The players would still be in charge and have the final say but you would have some very experienced and much needed guidance in areas that need special attention.

Whether you listen to the masses or not...............I wish you luck in making necessary changes. I hope it can be done with compromise in mind and being open to smaller victories rather than demanding change and feeling owed.

Good luck to you.

and no one who has heretofore posted under abpros or whatever that ID is should be that one person. I would actually advise them not to post here at all as an organization. Use an existing account or a friends account to bounce ideas off the forum but do not post as an organization at all. You will never win.

Positive Thread

Sad. Over 180 views and only one reply at this point. I guess this first post must be way too positive and intellectual to be a multi-page thread on this forum. It must need some ignorant post from some troll like PocketPoint to make people flock to it.

But I digress, this thread is too important to be left to the abyss, so bumpity, bump bump.

That being said, I suspect a lot of the great advise to fall on def ears like it has in the past. After decades of disappointment in what pool has been, I really think we may have seen it's peak in popularity.

I guess it will continue down the road to ruin of many a young men who pick up the dream or more correctly, the nightmare of pool.

Right now it would be to everyone's benefit to let the negotiations continue quietly, without interference from the Internet railbirds.

US Open Negotiations - A Statement from Barry Behrman

Today we had a conference call with the ABP's Attorney Dennis Walsh. After an encouraging conference call between Mr. Walsh, Shannon and myself, we are confident that everything will be worked out with the ABP, as all parties involved want a peaceful resolution. Shannon and I will be at the BCA Expo in Vegas this week to discuss financial support with current and potential U.S. Open sponsors. With the support of our fans, players and sponsors, we are convinced that all will be well with this year's event. Pat Fleming and David Thompson are diligently working with Television Networks to show the U.S. Open in other countries, besides for Asia, such as Canada, Europe and the USA.

In reference to Luke Riches latest press release, we apologize for our role in the mis-communication of Matchroom Sports funding arrangements, as we were under the assumption that the players were paid 30 days after the event, we have since learned that this is not the case.

We would like to thank everyone for their encouraging emails and phone calls, we are certain that the U.S. Open has the greatest fans on earth! We hope to see you all October 16-22, 2011 at the 36th Annual U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships.

Sincerely,

Where was this statement made? None the less, both parties need to communicate better with all media sources. AZ should be following up as well.

It's a "Headline" item on the AZBilliards.com Home page.

Everyone be quite now, OK. Alen has spoken.

It was posted on the front page of the worlds lagest billiard site in case you hadn't noticed.
What are we going to talk about, your grandmas latest quilt?

But seriously, why would you make a suggestion like that (as if we are going to heed your sage advice anyway)
and then quote a statement by Barry B. Just so we shouldn't talk about it.

Like most everything in life, pool will be to each of us what we make of it in our daily lives.

I love to play the game. I personally feel no disappointment whatsoever.

That said, it would be a bonus to see it as a more prominent sport/game nationally, but I'm not going to miss a beat in my personal life if it doesn't make it to that level in my lifetime.

It formerly held a much higher position... which was great for all the pool players back in that era.

We just are not as fortunate.
