I regret to inform the pool world that paul turner has passed.Everyone who knew him will miss him he was a funny guy and had some great stories.Some say he was one of the best bar table players ever.But who knows

Thats sad news. Paul was always very cordial. I enjoyed watching him play because when he played he seemed to become the ball ( cue ball). He really got into it.
 
This is sad news indeed. To say the least, Paul was always entertaining at events or in action.
 
when did he die? He sure could play! He always wore that old vietnam camo pattern jacket. I watched him win a tourney around the race track in atlanta,ga that payed around $4,000-$5,000 first place a year or 2 ago.

Great Player!!!

That is really to bad. I liked Paul, he was the guy that introduce me to one pocket.
 
More bad news....

I regret to also inform you all that Dick from the Atlanta area has passed away, also. I don't know his last name but he has been around pool for many years. Today has not been a good day for pool.

Please keep both families in your prayers!

Both will be missed

Both guys will surely be missed by the pool community. Paul was fun to watch play, he spun his cue ball a lot, and played jam up on the bar box, capable of beating just about anyone. It's a shame he died at such a young age.
 
Sad News. I remember Paul gambling and playing tournaments beginning in the early 80's. Very few left of that breed....:(

Gees, when I just read this, it really through me for a loop. Paul and I used to play in Atlanta quite a bit when they had the tournaments there at the Wagon Wheel. We used to play 7 and 8 ahead sets like it was clockwork.

Paul could run back-to-back packages. He had a lot of staying power, and needless to say, I partied with him as well. He was a great guy and one of the good players in the pool world. He was like Louie Roberts in a way. He actually had fun playing pool. I remember his smile like it was yesterday. We always had a great time playing each other. I will miss him.

If anybody can find out how this tragedy happened, I feel that he was too young to die. I know he's younger than me. Makes me think that I'm still lucky to be alive myself. It's a real wake-up call.

Rest in peace, Paul.

In 1987 in Jackson, Mississippi at the Steve Gumphres Memorial Tournament, there was a 10 ball ring game on the barbox and Paul Turner ran 13 racks. Gordy Christopherson told me that that has to be a world record. Paul stated in his bio on Southern Billiards' web page that he once ran 22 racks of nineball, gambling with Don Ballard. Paul was a great bar table player and he will be missed.

I never knew Paul Turner, except from my brother Country Calvin Harcrow' tales of him and their pool playing's, and from the time I briefly met him at the Super Bowl tournament in Memphis, back in about 2000, where I intoduced myself and we talked for a time, I asked him what his high rack run was and he told me 23 racks srtaight of 9-Ball , the night his mother died , that was about all we talked about and now I here of his passing, , I hope he found Jesus somewhere in-between all the going's on of pool....rest in peace...Paul Turner

I played Paul a few times 7 or so years back in GA. He would give me a HUGE spot in one pocket (and of course still win). In one pocket, he had one of the smoothest strokes that I can remember. He was quite a character to be around.

Any info on what happened to him?
