Well just wondering waht you gusy woudl think i just got home from my local room tonight and i think im on par to get my stroke back after a 1 1/2 year break. Ive been hitting balls for the last 2 weeks and tonight after practicing with a friend of mine that is trying to start back up he asks me " So how do you think you woudl fair vs the ghost in some races to 7". Never was much for playing the ghost but i thought what the heck after he helped me get my break working last night and tonight i thought lets just give it a try.

races as follows

Jbell Ghost
7 2
7 0
7 3
7 2

Like i said i never really played the ghost but was pleased after 2 weeks being able to do that.
Table played on was a Brunswick 4x8 with Simonis cloth Red Circle ball
Just curious if anyone out there uses this as a practice tool seems it might work ok.

LMAO FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY a response ty sir yes i took off the time when we moved and my daughter started fast pitch softball never had the time now we moved back to a place with a decent room to play in and im enjoying playing again. Was hoping for more people to post what practice they use to guage their ability. ty again

that is pretty good, dude. IMO, that is class A stuff. i think you're ready to get it on with the 10-ball ghost.

You went 28 v 7 against the ghost ?
If you said you were playing the 3-ball ghost then people may have replied. You just put everyone to shame though.

Seems you're ready for the 12-ball ghost by those stats. Why aren't you pro?...or were you?

9-Ball Ghost is to break, take ball in hand and try to go out. If you go out you beat the ghost, if you don't the ghost wins.

If you can do it with 11 or 12 balls and beat the ghost regularly, you should be playing with the pros....or at least that seems to be the common perception.

Oh, ok....i get it. Back when I played alot of 9-ball, I used to break a full rack (15), take ball in hand, and try to run out. If I did'nt get out, I'd count how many balls were left on the table, and keep track that way. I usually did 10 racks at a time. It always made sense to me to practice something MUCH harder than the actual game you played, like the Phillipino guys do with rotation. That way it seems easier when you compete. I used to practice 14.1 on a snooker table, then a 9-footer looked like a toy.

But, there must be a point where the practice game is too hard and thus, not of benefit. I think one should start w/ 4 or 6 ball, move to 9, then 10, then 12. Not to say you are of any particular level, just speaking of generalities...

I never was what you would call a Pro but i made a decent living playing when i was younger and have played on and off since i was 17 took a 4 year break in there once also and that one was tough to come back from but this has jsut been so easy. Hardest thing im having trouble with is staying down on very long shots. I forgot to add this in my original post that I wasnt putting this up to brag im really looking for help and seems im getting it will try the 10_ball ghost today and see how i fair. And this is my only way to play is by myself or with my 1 friend that is starting back since im not allowed in any of the weekly tournys in town. so any ideas on good 1 person practice methods is vauled.

thanks for the help and comments also all.

Beating the ghost is one of many skills the pros have. If that is your only one you have no business playing with the pros.

But seriously when i get them ill sell you EVER one at that price i do believe he has some sneaky petes already made and finished at the shop now though.

ive never played the ghost on a 4 x 8 and im not sure how that effects the outcome but thats durn respectable scores for ghost play in my book.

thanks scotty gonna try this out on a 4 1/2 x 9 this weekend as i think we are heading for JOB billiards in nashville friday night to goof around. trying to talk my friend who owns our local room into buying atleast one 4 1/2 x 9 for us to practice on . thanks again.

I believe it's the standard triangle rack with the 1-ball at the apex (foot spot), the 2-ball and 3-ball at the other corners, and the other balls randomly placed.

Even on a 4 x 8, this is a fantastic performance, better than I'd expect of an A+ rated played, but below top pro level. Nice shooting!

Ghost.....

To be honest with you guys, beating the ghost with ball in hand after the break is not that hard. I mean, if you can't run out with ball in hand at any point in a 9-ball game, do you really think you can play? (I don't want to hear about precentages of balls tied up or whatever) To win, you only need be ahead one game at the end! I consider myself an A+ or open player, but I can generally beat the ghost 5 0r 7 ahead in less than an hour or two.

Now, throwing in different table sizes felts etc. does change the equation. Smaller table is easier, familiar table is easier. I dunno, doesn't seem that hard to me. Congratulations on getting back in stroke JBell. I am not trying to belittle your accomplishment, I just don't understand why people put so much stake into beating the ghost. Scott
