Hey everyone

I have decided to up my budget for my first cue to 180 dollars

I have my eye on these, I am just clueless on what to get. I just would like a cue that hits nice you know, just a first nice cue. If you get what I mean :S

yeh so any help lol

I am up for any other suggests. Iam up for cues with a bit of a cool design too. so if you could not offer me any of those like plain cues, which are extremely good quality and i should go with one, but i just cant help it, i have to get a cue that i think looks nice too.!!

Know anyone who plays with these brands? any bad / good experiences? There is no way i can get hold of any cues and try them. I live in England, pool is very very low key, especially 9-balL!!!

thank you all! - this is my last budget increase ;p

Check out one of those Varney sneaky petes. They play very nicely and are a lot of cue for the money. PM Varney and see what he has in your range. As for looks, some of the best players I know play with sneaky petes, in part due to the fact that they are the "hustler" cues (although not anymore), but mostly due to the fact that they prefer to play with a full splice cue.

I would do the same.. Go for a SP. Or find a used older Predator SP with 5/16-14 pin. Or try used Josey SP.

Shipping to the UK???

If you lived in California or Florida or even Iowa maybe you could buy a decent cue for $180 shipped.....but, my guess is that anyone shipping a cue to you in the UK is gonna want $40 easy!?

You will be hard pressed to find a decent cue for $140. Maybe you can follow some auctions on Ebay for some SP cues from some of the up and coming cue makers!?

Otherwise from your selection earlier I'd say the plain jane Pechauer would not be a bad pick -- just my $.02 worth  but, hopefully, it's not a race, is it???

GET A JOSS. Period. You can't beat it for the money.

Whatever you decide, I will beat all those ebay prices on anything brand new. Let me know.

Didn't notice you were in England. Try this website for some contact info:

http://shop.9ballpool.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=282

Then try PMing the Diamond here on AZB, aka, Simon "the Diamond" D'Vali, who is also in England and will probably know your best opportunities for an American style cue there on your budget. There are several within your budget on the website I posted. Good luck.

i will work with you on any price you see on the internet, my web link is in on here in my signature. I will work with you to get you a great cue at a grerat price.

Just get the McDermott......You Won't be disappointed. Plus you can sent it back to the factory up to twice a year and they will refurbish the cue.....Clean it, retip it etc....... I sent one back that had the tiniest of gaps in the wrap and they rewrapped it as well as doing all the other stuff. Fast turn around time too.
It's great after sale service that in my opinion sets McDermott above other production cue makers......They really make a great hitting cue.

If you are interested in getting into a nice custom SP, I can put you in touch with Paul Allers, who makes a VERY nice Hustler-style SP for 175.00, of course you would have to cover shipping costs to the UK. Most all his cues are 60" long, (30" butt/30" shaft) and play very well. He can also do a regular length cue for you, if you like. He is a super nice guy to deal with.

I would offer to sell you mine, but it is one of his rarer Indian rosewood models, and the 'deco' ring @ the bottom isn't nearly as nice as most of his.....plus it just plays so darn nice, that I don't think I can part with it...my son was bugging me to give it to him last night, as he loves playing with it. Most of his are done in cocobolo of every shade, but he uses alot of African palmwood, as well. Some of the best players in my area are playing with this particular style of cue from him, and are incredibly happy with them. In fact, in my 9 Ball league, I think every player, save one, won trips to the Reno Open playing with an Allers.

Email: pallers@galaxynet.com (I found his card:) )

You might try Varney Cues as well, he is here on the forums. From what I have seen and heard, he makes a real nice SP as well, but I am not sure of his pricing structure.

The advantage of going this route, is that it allows you to get into something custom, even made to your specs, usually in short time. Best bang for your buck, IMHO. Plus, people are less likely to walk off with a SP.

Just a reminder. When ordering things from USA to EU it's not only the shipping that comes extra. In purchase price is shipping added and then from that price customs calculate VAT and customs fees, and in general you can say those are about 20 to 25% of original price with shipping added.

Just to remind that none gets any nasty surprises.

Ed

Hello Ed, first let me say know one can say realistically that you should buy this cue or that cue. Buying a cue is like buying a comfortable pair of blue jeans, what feels great to me may not feel good to you. So Ed, if I were you I would not purchase my first cue or any cue on line. Ed, no two cues will ever feel or hit exactly alike. I have customers come into my pool hall everyday, telling me that they just have to have this cue or that cue because they tried their Friends and it hit wonderful. So if I have the cue in stock I pull it out of the case and let them try it, in many cases they agree that the cue feels different. While most mass production cues will look the same, the over all feel can change for many reasons. Ed, my advise to you is go to a local / reputable dealer and shop for a cue keeping this in mind. If a dealer will not let you test cues before you buy them go some where else. You should be able to chalk and hit with as many cues as it takes to find the right cue for you. Since most cues today have a adjustable weight Assemblies try a number of differently weighted cues, a good dealer can make these adjustments to a given cue in no time at all. Ed, also try cues with different joints and pins, such as, Stainless steel, Phenolic, Piloted, non-piloted. Pins, try 3/8-10, 5/16-14 piloted / non-piloted, and the 5/16-18, Ed all these joints / pins will give you a different hit / feel. Ed, while you may spend a little more money than on line, it will be worth it because you will get a cue that has the right feel for you and that will make you play better in the long run.

On that price range i really ask you to take a look on european markets; shipping and other costs are in big role on cheaper cues. Ask, for example, from Maurice from HOB Weert (in NL)...posting also in this forum with name HOB Weert.
