Anyone have a good way to get that hard crust out of a Willard's shaper without damaging the carbide grit underneath? I don't grind my tips for too long before emptying the dome, but I still eventually get a good layer of crust in there that simply must go.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

stiff brush

A stiff brush, old tooth brush for me, works just fine with or without a little water to soften the crust.

I blast it out with water from the sink spray gun at high pressure, brush it with whatever brush is around, and then blast it with the gun again.

It's like new.

I use rubbing alcohol and a toothbrush (or even my finger). The alcohol evaperates faster than water.
