Definition of "Custom Cue"

There have been 5 or 6 threads regarding custom cues in the Main Category the last couple days. Lots of different definitions of a custom cue, which is better custom or production for playing or value retention, round inlays or pointed/sharp inlays, perception that custom means more $$ than production, etc etc. Custom seems to mean a lot of things to a lot of players/collectors. One of the definitions for custom should be "per the customers specifications". The attached picture is not "per the customers specification" but the idea of the cuemaker and per cm's specifications. Built (as much as possible) by the cuemaker (and the rest was left to God). So is it "custom"? At least it does mean one of the definitions that could be used for custom --- one of a kind

Looks like a roasted marshmallow. Glad I ordered a steel jointed cue from you.

I believe that would be part of Alaskan Elk Antler but I cannot say for sure.. Jack, you will have to give them the right answer if I am incorrect.. Which I often am!!

Looks like a chink of ivory being used as a joint protector.
 
After careful examination, I have come to my conclusion as to what the material is.

Consider that it can be cut, it can char, it's off-white, and has a gooey looking surface. It can only be one thing:

A Potsticker (Chinese Pan Fried Dumpling).

And damn, I'm hungry.

That should be the main one. I hear people say they own a custom when in fact it was built for someone else. They just happen to own it at that time. I've never owned a custom, really. I've owned customs that were made for someone. But who knows who it was originally made for, if it wasn't made for you then it's not a custom. It was custom made for someone else.

It seems in the pool world today many things are described as custom. It may be a shaft, joint or even a butt plate etc. LOL When all they are is a particular part made to fit someone's cue. I suppose if it makes the customer feel special and it's made to fit (their specs) that's all that matters.
