the pred 314 was out when i started playing. i started with regular maple shaft but switched to 314 maybe one year in or so. still use that shaft, pre-cat.

The 314 seems to have been announced in the January, 1995 issue of the National Billiards News. There was a full-page press release/ad. It's available in the Goldmine:
