one thing i dont understand, arent there any laws or government agencies in the u.s. that the players can get a hold of to look after this matter about not getting paid.i live in canada and this was the case here, there would be government people that would be all over this lying,rip-off,scumbag.i think its about time the players got off there butt, stopped waiting by the mailbox, and did something about it.this scumbag is not going to pay, everything i hear about what he says is a lie.now that online gambling is toast in the u.s. why would mr.ho even consider this purchase of the i.p.t. k.t. says that this is a little snag.come on people it is a huge snag.i read that guys like rodney morris cant even shoot pool anymore because he is so distraut about not getting his 150,000 from reno.
its about time that people start throwing lawsuits and hunt this dirtbag down.i am not here to get ridiculled by anyone ,just saying my say.i wish the i.p.t. would go on and be what i thought was the best thing ever for pool, but its not looking that way.

as for the players ,i truly feel sorry for them, because we finnally thought they would make the money they so deserve.but if you go to chicago without getting paid for reno, they deserve to be in this mess.ALL PLAYERS
SHOULD NOT GO TO CHICAGO IF THEY ARE NOT PAID FOR RENO.I THINK ITS ABOUT TIME FOR THE PLAYERS TO STAND UP FOR THEMSELVES.ITS
QUITE OBVIOUS K.T. DONT GIVE A CRAP ABOUT ANYONE OF YOU.

If I'm not mistaken, Steve ran the tournaments. He was not involved in the marketing of the tour, accounting, lining up sponsorship, setting dates, securing locations, setting up a series of qualifiers, maintaining player stats, keeping up with IRS paperwork, running the web-site, or any of the other behind the scenes activities required to take on a project of the magnitude of the IPT. There is a lot more to running a tour than just keeping up the brackets and calling good or bad shots.

Steve,

TIPTON was the "MAN" until apprx 5 to 7 yrs ago. :)

He was replaced by a group from the east coast. He stayed on in a lesser capacity.

Ok Jimmy. Tell us how you really feel.

By the way, I lean more your way than the other. If he owed me big money this long, I would be hunting him down by now.

Nope he did everything-Then he was replaced by some hot marketing group from NY that was going to get a million sponsors and bring pool to the next level. I think they lasted a year maybe and did nothing but continue what Steve had built.

thanks jay,i just think its about time the players did something about this instead of waiting around for this scum to pay them,if he will.

Hmmm, I didn't realize that. I thought all he did was do the draw and referee and run the tournaments. I thought Peg Ledman was the one who did all the behind the scenes stuff.

I think at times and maybe still Peg's operation was hired by the WPBA. Steve had at one time for a few (edit-2) years, the highest position WITHIN the WPBA. He ran the office etc. He stepped down for the NY Marketing Flop Firm sometime after the last NY event. Dawn was President at the time. That's my recollection- it may not be perfect but it is close and Steve was the Man. Anyone for Tennis?

Here- from the WPBA site

"Steve Tipton, voice of the WPBA as our expert tournament director and master of ceremonies, took over tour administration from Sigma Marketing during 1998-1999."

That's all well and good, but I suspect he still had to have a staff to keep things running.

As indicated he hired one associate towards the end of his tenure.

TIPTON had a lot of hats on his credenza and was very adept at switching at a moments notice.

The job he did was, IMO, AMAZING!:)

And what he still does is pretty amazing- 9.5 on a scale of 10. He MC's every event with excitement and enthusiasm as if it was his first and the event was the biggest in pool. His knowledge and professionalism are without equal or better yet- no one is even close enough to compare.

I argued with a top 5 player that Steve was more important to the tour than any one player. She didnt like that at all.

Awhile back Steve was mentioning retirement so for about 4-5 different tournaments they let someone else on the MIC the first 2 days- Total disaster-Snoozefests!! Some of them couldnt even pronounce the names of the players or their towns. It was like handing the mic to your niece or nephew with some notes that they never seen before. Dart-MOUTH Massachusettes anyone?

Grace Nakamura was easily the best of the bunch but no more than a 6 relative to ST. Steve is taken for granted but once you have seen it tried without him, you realize just how good he is.

Sorry to be so off topic here.

As an Emcee, Steve is the best in the business, on a par with any pro in any venue you can name. As a T.D. I give him about a 7, on a scale of 1 to 10. I do not like the fact that when players need a shot watched, they are frequently shouting and waving for Steve. Totally unprofessional, somebody should be out on the floor watching the matches.

And his shot calling is still only fair, he is not always in position to see the shot from the best angle, consequently he's guessing. After all these years, he should have this stuff down pat. I still like the guy, always personable and affable. He has a good word for everyone. Just get someone like Mark Wilson out there to watch the matches please.

Yeah i was not including ref'ing/shot calling in my assessment. He should leave that to Marc. If added to all the things he does, he could pay rapt attention to all the games going on waiting to be called, well IMHO, that would be a bit too much to ask.
