Not everyone is thrilled about the continued filipino invasion. I was at the Boston qualifier yesterday, and I overheard a conversation of an American pool player (who will remain nameless) right after Kiamco beat Breedlove to obtain his IPT tour card. Basically, he thinks all the filipino players are "no good f**kers" and they should all "leave this country and go back home". He then mentions two other American players that agree with his sentiments. EDIT: Just to be clear, the person who made these comments WAS NOT Breedlove.

There is still blatant racism in the pool world, and I witnessed it first hand. As a person of Filipino ethnicity, I was extremely hurt by his comments. As an American, I am totally ashamed he is representing our country as an American pool player.

Nevertheless, Congrats to Orcollo (okay, so is it "Orcollo" or "Orcullo"??)

CMon lets get some names!!! I want to be the first to heckle those fellas at the next tourney. Can't keep stuff like that a secret. Lets get it out in the open. I want to know who the KKK of the Pool World are.

On another note, the slow cloth at the IPT tourneys are perfect for the Filipino Players. Can't get any slower than outdoor pool tables, 90% humidity, dirty pool balls, and really old wet cloth! That's how they do in the P I !!! Sorry no money to make it any other way. Marcos took it all!!

Rob

With Orcullo and now Kiamco thrown into the mix, I wonder how this year's IPT would end? Will we see a repeat of last year's with Filipinos occupying the top spots (Reyes, Bustamante and Manalo)? C'mon you guys, step it up a notch!!!

Can you guys tell us more about this Kiamco fellow? And more about Orcullo as well. While you're at it, what about that Alcano someone mentioned? Are there any more filipinos out there we should all look out for? (aside from reyes, bustamante, manalo, parica, pagulayan, sambajon, luat (?), ....)

Kiamco was here years ago. A friend of mine staked him and took him on the road. He went back to the islands.
Alcano, who plays Orcullo even, was here two years or so ago and made some noise on the Joss Tour.

Parica, Orcullo, Jamito, and Petralba are heading over to Reno for the bar table tournament, and I wouldn't be surprised if Orcullo won that one too. If they make it over there.. Gerardo said the pass had 8 inches on it.

The reason I'm not divulging the name of this jerk is because he was having a private conversation between three people, and I was more or less eavesdropping (although, i find it ridiculous he was talking as loud as he did considering the subject matter, and considering a Filipino-looking fan such as myself was sitting just 10 feet directly in front of him). No one else would vouch for what I heard. I'll just say this...he is a famous player, and I have absolutely no respect for him now.

That's the last thing I'll say on that subject.

Yeah...Filipina Rubilen Amit, who'll be making a splash in the women's WPA Championships tomorrow! ;)

As for Orcullo, now that he's in the states, the pool world will get to see potentially one of the greatest rivalries in the sport...Orcullo versus Pagulayan. Not only are they both Filipino and around the same age, but they're both kick-ass pool players.

As posted, Alex and Dennis have butt heads in the past in money games, but they've also teamed up together. While their fellow countrymen Reyes, Bustamante, and Manalo were dominating the IPT KOTH, Alex and Dennis teamed up in the Southeast Asian games in the Philippines and dominated in 9ball doubles.

Does anyone know...are Pagulayan and Orcullo friends? Do they get along? I wouldn't be surprised at all if these two did NOT get along at all, considering their skills and competitive drive.

Alex versus Dennis...Orcullo versus Pagulayan...now that both are in the IPT, you'll be hearing the names of these two in the same sentence for a long time. It'll be exciting. :)

The first 3 you've mentioned where already answered by Joey. Other filipino players to keep notes on:

Was on the recent IPT Qualifier:
Warren Kiamco
Dennis Orcollo
Antonio Lining
Ramil Gallego
Victor Ignacio (San Diego based)

Antonio Gabica (should have joined the group above, but most likely failed on his visa)
Ronnie Alcano
Leonardo Andam
Gandy Valle
Lee Van Corteza (26 yrs old)
Jeffrey De Luna (21 yrs old)

I found a list of National Rankings for APBU (Asian Pocket Billiards Union)

Anyone know who won the team event?

I'm not sure of the name of the team but they had one young player (probably all of them are) from Canada, and they did not lose a single match.

2nd place was Team Utah, Justin Bergman was on that team.

3rd place was Team Raggs, Stan Tourangeau was on that team.

Orcollo or Orcullo???

I think it's Orcullo.

I guess I'll just have to ask him if I see him on Sunday at Hardtimes Sacramento.
In his signature that you posted, it looks like he signed an "o" rather than a "u".

My bad, I just check another item that he signed for me, it's definitely an "O". So it's really spelled as O-R-C-O-L-L-O and pronounced as ORKOLYO.

Unless his last name was changed just a few days ago, it's definitely Orcollo.

You showed a lot of class not posting their name. It is too bad that they are not able to do the same. PM me their names so that I can observe them in the future to make my own determination. I haven't heard anyone say anthing race oriented although some pool player's treatment of others could easily be construed as racist. Essentially, it is jealousy.
Warm Regards,
JoeyA
