Dennis Searing

Just thought I would post a very positive experience involving Mr. Searing.

For a long time I have been wanting a Searing but have refrained based on the feedback that he is difficult to contact or deal with.
Well, I contacted him recently about having a cue built and this is not the same guy I have read about. He made himself readily available and answered all my questions quickly. I am happy to say that I am on the list and based on his email, should expect something in about 2 years.
I CAN"T WAIT, as his cues, along with Joel Herceks, are the two makers that I am dying to own.

I realize I am only one case but I thought I would post a positive about Dennis in case others were thinking the same way as myself.

Regards,
Koop

Getting on the list is easy, getting the cue is hard part.
I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that you won't get a cue within 3 years.
You're right about Dennis being a nice guy and I'm sure his intentions are genuine, but delivery times are never accurate.
Good Luck.

My experience with Dennis has been similar. I'm expecting a cue in the very near future. He is a busy guy so he can't always get to the phone. The handful of times I've talked to him he's always been gracious and generous with his time on the phone discussing all aspects of cue making, pool, and life in general!

His enthusiasm and dedication to the craft of cue making comes through loud and clear and he does not shy away from discussing important cue specification details which make other cue makers scream.

Thanks and to be honest, even if it is 3 years, I don't mind.
Patience is certainly a virtue when it comes to having a cue built :)

Almost more than 3 years...

It's almost more than 3 years and I still haven't seen it yet... :(

Eventually, I guess...

Same experience

I emailed him and he right back to me. Was very cool. I am on the list and he said at least 2 years. He seemed like a very nice person in his emails.

Then it's a good thing my wife doesn't play pool ...

... did I say that out loud ? Oops !

I met Dennis at the last Expo. He had a booth and Voodoo Daddy was with him. He was a very nice guy to talk to and had a couple of very nice, classically inlayed, veneered cues that I'm sure he sold the first day, if they weren't previously sold.

He also appreciated my cue when I finally got to show it to Voodoo. Any cuemaker out there that respects other cuemakers' works are worthwhile to get a cue from. It's always a learning business for the best.

My experience with Dennis has always be great. He might not be the easiest person to get hold of. But he does reply his email when he is free... you must have patience thoughl. He is in the process of assembling a bocote cue for me now.... starting this week. He has always be polite an informative in all his emails. Looking forward to the cue..

I want to add my complete support of Koop's opinion. I got ahold of Dennis the same way and we had a great conversation about several topics. Needless to say, I'm on his list, too! :)

As to Barbara's comment, Dennis was very gracious when discussing other cue maker's and why he uses certain methods to build the cue and they don't. He's tried many methods and come to conclusions that he believes make a more sound and better playing cue. But, never a negative word about other ways, just positive reasons why he believes what he does.

Excuse me while I drive down to his shop and look over his shoulder until he finishes my cue. It's gonna be a long 2+ years. :p

He really is a nice guy. Im fortunate enough to live near him and he plays at the poolhall I go to. He is good friends with the owner whom I know very well. Most of the guys in the poolhall play with a searing. He never has a problem answering my questions and he even said that he liked my Omen plain jane but I think its because him and pete are good friends :) His wait is quiet long but trust me its worth it. His cues are definately something everyone serious about pool would want to have. He's not a bad player either.

I would love to have a Searing but, being 19 and not making a lot of money prohibits me from owning one. But I live within 5 miles (give or take) from his shop. He does tip work for me and I have never seen someone take so much time and effort in something that isnt there own. He answers every question I have and even takes time to show me stuff he has made, and the like. He is an awesome cuemaker and a very good businessman, IMHO.

You'd be surprised. He does not take any money until the cue is complete so that would give you about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 years to save up.
Might be a good idea to get on the list and then go from there. I bet in a couple of years you will be making more money and be in a better position to buy it when it comes time.

Koop

P.S. Mike Webb, as are you.

None! That is why I jumped on the list. Kind of like Joel except he requires no money until fully complete.

Really good guy.

Thats correct--NOTHING down to be on the list. He does not need a deposit to make sure you are going to buy the cue. It is simple--if you decide not to buy it--how long do you think an unsold cue will last in his shop? Maybe 10 min. He is a great pearson not to mention a great cue maker.

I'm on Hercek's list, but at 59 I expect by the time I get to the top of his list I'll be retired and unable to buy lunch leave alone a Hercek cue. LOL. For that reason I won't be getting on anymore lists, be it Southwest or Searing or anything else. COL <crying out loud>
The way gas is going I'll be selling my present cues to get gas money. I figure a 1000 dollar cue is probably good for 1000 miles.
Glad you had a good experience with Dennis. Personally I've only heard good things about him.
